Description
Enter The Cookout Online. The Cookout was created by three Black, LBGT+ Women who meet via social media, who, like you, were tired of being targeted for online abuse for having the audacity to embrace their identities loudly and proudly. As entrepreneurs, they understood and acknowledged the importance of having a public social presence for entrepreneurial pursuits, but they also wanted a place where people like them could engage in social media safely. A digital home. Thus, The Cookout was born to address the pain points many Black users experience with larger social media apps.
A few months and hundreds of 5-star app store reviews later, The Cookout is flourishing as a unique, invitation-only, social media experience where Blackness is celebrated, not tolerated. Cookout users report:
- higher satisfaction with social interaction on The Cookout than other social media apps
-a feeling of safety, intimacy, and community
-a feeling of being heard and valued by the creators of the platform
...all of which were missing from their social media experience prior.
Our community values of Authenticity, Community, and Afrocentricity create an online experience like no other and with community standards that center the diaspora, users hardly ever run afoul of "Cookout jail".

1 ★ How long does the approval process take? I've been waiting since January 27th to be approved. If I'm not invited to the cookout just tell me that and I'll move on...🤷♂️
5 ★ I loved the first version of the Cookout App, but I REALLY love this new one!! It's welcoming, straightforward, the topics and groups are great, and it's so soothing and uplifting to be surrounded by a community that is focused on staying moisturized and non toxic. I never have a bad experience whenever I open the app and I feel more motivated to participate. Truly a gated community and a blessing.
5 ★ A fantastic app, by fantastic people. The screening process weeds out most of the folks we don't want, and then there are other safeguards in place if a few have slipped through to cause the App to not be safe anymore. We're learning about Kwanzaa right now TOGETHER, and that is something that would get buried at that other place. Also this version is so much more user friendly than the first version, and that one was pretty great too.
5 ★ This is the social media network of my dreams. I actually love that you have to complete an application to join, because it helps weed out trolls. It's easy to use and the interface is nice. The owners of the app are easy to reach, down to earth and help with whatever is needed. Most of all, I love that it's a Blackety Black space for us. We finally have a safe space on the internet that connects us to people we might have never met without it. Thank y'all for this bomb a** app.
5 ★ Okay y'all this is the BOMB!! the ladies have outdone themselves again. 2.0 is easy to use and navigate. It is user friendly and amazing. They took our recommendations and made an incredible upgrade. I love a platform that listen to its users. My favorite part about all this is the 'edit' button.❤❤ 💃🏿
5 ★ This app keeps getting better and better. The UI is smooth and pleasing to the eye. The features are great. The cookout is the judgement free zone that I needed, and does not require any labor to explain backstory. I can just be myself without explanation. 789,655 stars/5.
5 ★ I love having a genuinely safe space to chill online. The app itself is beautiful and easy to navigate. Questions are answered in a timely fashion, but really I personally never have questions, even as I was learning to use the app, because they LITERALLY thought of everything and provided all answers in the reading material provided. It really feels like home and I don't feel that usual sense of anxiety I feel from other social networks.
5 ★ Absolutely love this platform! It's an open, well-moderated, easy to navigate, safe, and fun space. No drama, racism, hateful trolls or toxicity; lots of wonderful group discussions and members. The creators of this app really worked hard to give 'community folk' an awesome digital space for us to engage in and continue to improve it. Greatly appreciated.
5 ★ Vented for the first time in the designated group on the App and I felt safe. My anxiety was at an all time high today and to be able to get that off my chest without feeling like someone would run and tell my business or make fun of me, because it isnt that big of a deal to them, just made me feel so much better. I literally felt lighter. The people commenting made me feel food as well. I love this App!!!

This app is five stars in my opinion because not only do you guys engage with us in the app but this app is Black Invested, Black Made, and a BLAQUE SPACE for BLACK PEOPLE to operate. You've made it possible for Ashy People and Dusty people to disappear and have given us our own little utopia! Love this app and please continue to prosper in its Evolution ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
5 ★ This app has made my online adventures way less of a stress factor. What these amazing creators have done is design an innovative , interactive safe space for those of us who would otherwise have nowhere else to go and be ourselves . The vetting and verification process of each person eliminates the risk of trolling and cat fishing . I've been apart of the app since the original and I can say that What you see really is what you get and what I see is beautiful. Keep up the good work. 💛

5 ★ Whoa, I love the easy and helpful user interface! I'm so excited to be a part of this community. I support this app past the fullest. I'm so glad to have an online community that is a home. Anyone who calls this "segregation" is sadly misinformed. This app is our space, created and driven by us, in a world that refuses to acknowledge our existence (as humans). Kudos on the app and I am so excited to see our community become a true community. I highly recommend this app.
1 ★ So disappointed. I was in the original app just fine and even subscribed. fine but 2.0 has never worked for me. It went from pending request to wrong credentials. 1/8/19:I read the transactions. Responded to the one email about which email address I used. Nothing worked. But sure the more plausible idea is I paid money to support something just to bash it. That I contacted support just to ignore it. I orginally wrote this (1 wk ago) initial review with 4 stars hoping for a response but nothing.
5 ★ I love this app. It's a different social media experience. The developers interact with us & really listen to what we want.
