Description

Track progress and help motivate every step of the way through the Parent Dashboard – our online analytics and tracking hub. DoodleEnglish is the low-cost, high-impact alternative to English tuition.
Teachers: whilst necessary, teaching children the finer points of ‘fronted adverbials’ can be dry at the best of times! What’s more, even following a successful lesson, these grammatical rules can be very difficult for children to retain. DoodleEnglish moves children gently and progressively through carefully-authored questions designed to teach children the fundamentals of punctuation and grammar as well as vital comprehension skills. The 7-a-day functionality is brought across from DoodleMaths and implemented in a hugely effective way, constantly reminding children of what they have previously learned: drop terms like ‘adverb’ into your lesson, safe in the knowledge that they are understood by your class and won’t need revisiting before you get started.
DoodleEnglish subscriptions also give full access to DoodleSpell.

5 ★ I've just tried to subscribe to doodle English. As the app says, all the subscriptions start with a 7 day free trial which we're on now. However, we're unable to access any of the premium features. My daughter would really like to do the advent activity but if we're on basic features only for 7 days, she'll miss it all. Update: the issue has been resolved and my daughter has really enjoyed using the app. The rewards keep her motivated. Great app
4 ★ UPDATE: I was able to fix Mac's issue by following developer's advice below. RE android sound issue - phone volume controls are not working when the app is in the view. To change the volume, the user needs to hide the app from the screen. Which results in another issue - DoodleEnglish logs user out when this switch happens, and when you login back again you have to start the session from the beginning, which is quite frustrating. The content of the app is great, but the shell around it not so much... Note to the developer - I sent two emails to the customer support in the last couple of months, and haven't received a reply to any of them, hence reaching out via this review.
1 ★ Wow this is expensive! Priced per child per subject! I was under the impression that this was a free app to help with learning, with basic features for free plus additional features you can pay for but it is not. I will be looking at paying almost 25 pounds a month if I want my children to use both subjects. There are no reductions for multiple children or subscribing to both subjects.
4 ★ In general good app to practice English. I have one issue with learning tasks. X-a-day contains a sentence that a kid has to type. My son finds this part the most challenging and just skips it. So he just repeat the daily workout again and again skipping the sentence never actually practicing full sentences. I wonder if this can be fixed on learning logic?
5 ★ Love Doodle, been using it for maths, times tables, English and spelling for over a year now. Our 8 year old is more engaged with the new changes in this latest release - the voice is more engaging, the refreshed look and feel are even easier to use and most importantly Doodle has helped her to catch up on weaker areas so now she's in a position where she's got ahead at school. There are a few tweaks to be made in the new version but the Doodle team is listening to customers and acting quickly.
3 ★ The idea and the questions are good but the app would be more helpful if the same question wasn't repeated 5 times in one session. There are a lot of exact repeat questions. This doesn't happen much in doodle maths. Also sometimes it doesn't let you tap the items it's asking you to tap. You have to restart the app and redo the questions.
2 ★ Good idea The problem for Reception: at set up (assessment) we chose that the child's knowledge is "not at all" still the tasks are too hard. Not locking the stars & letting the child pass to the next task and only solve for their level would make the app usable. Older children can "cheat" at the spellings (uncover the words at any time), writing the sentences, ( app gives the right answer before submitting) answering comprehension questions (the text can be read just above the question)
5 ★ A great way to increase your English level. If you or someone you know struggles with english I reccommend DoodleEnglish. I have the premium which I also think is good. This is for the developer:When I go into 'My Friends' It crashes when i click on a friends Profile but other than that I love this app and its so worth downloading
1 ★ DoodleEnglish just doesn't work well on Android. We have all 4 Doodle apps and this doesn't come close to being as good as the others. Very slow to respond and many questions missing the 'done' option so unable to move on to next question (only way round this is to choose 'save to tricky questions' which marks childs score down). Will be cancelling subscription which is a shame because the concept is great and would probably pay more if only it worked. Sadly functionality is extremely poor!
4 ★ not that bad because it good but you have to go green Zone if I don't my teachers will be so mad so yh
3 ★ Some times it didn't work
1 ★ Hou have to get almost full marks to preced to the next question which was a problem for me as i didn't know the answer for most of them i showed my famly and they could not work out the answer. Edit: the app allows a space after a sentence if you mooved the answer to if but not if you typed it in on the worlds most smallest keyboard. Update the first thing I said hapened agen I know to not destroy my phone😡 Can this app be taken off the play store please?
5 ★ This is an interesting and Incredible app, it helps me a looooot and I have gotten a much better grade than before, all the doodle apps have helped me on all the subjects [Maths, English, Spelling, Times Tables]
5 ★ This app is fantastic at helping children build their confidence in English. The 'little a day' approach is excellent at encouraging good study habits, and keeps children motivated with rewards and doodle stars. As a home educating parent, the feedback I have received through the parent dashboard has been invaluable.
1 ★ I can't make it work. It just sits there loading and not going anywhere. Plus there should be a family subscription option for more than one child, or at least a subscription for all the subjects in one.
