The connection of riding motorcycles over rough terrain with speed was the impetus for the emergence of competition in motor cross. One of the first available to the public competition on rough terrain was the so-called "race for the Fox" held at the military training parade ground near London in 1908. It was attended by 13 of the 16 motorcyclists and horse riders. The purpose of motorcyclists was to prove that the new technique on the road exceeds the speed of horses. In the first motocross competitions were attended by riders on road bikes adapted for movement on rough terrain their own efforts. Motorcycles easier by removing unnecessary competition parts — headlights, brake lights, trunk, passenger foot pegs, mirrors, fine-tuned suspension, increased engine power.
