Description
You get to see how life was in the Ancient Republic, participate in their various customs, festivals and Ludi / sporting competitions, while raising a family and moving up in the social and economic hierarchy of Rome.
You can educate your children, marry them off, sponsor their elections and much more. You'll usually play as the eldest of your sons once your character dies.
The game is open-ended without a set endgame just like in real life, but a grand goal for any ambitious Roman family was to land a Consulship of the republic. This could be your goal in the game as well, climbing the Cursus Honorum and becoming a "New Man" - "Novus Homo"
WARNING: The game just like fate will beat you down from time to time and you might find all that you worked for being taken away from you in an instant, but the way things are set up you'll almost certainly end up growing wealthy and reach the Senatorial class at some point despite various setbacks. There is no game-over and life goes on no matter what
A core philosophy of the game is that just like in real life, there's no winning or losing, just experiencing life and having fun at it no matter where it takes you. The game should be fun in its own way at every level, no matter if you're a prole or a senator, but with things just playing differently and with different goals and challenges
We've been constantly adding new things to the game and hope to continue to do so going forward, especially based on player feedback; Please contribute any ideas, bugs and suggestions via our Discord or an email to rome@thestartupengine.net

5 ★ Update: As of right now, the issue with the game crashing when a certain event pops up has been fixed!! Apparently the latest game update did fix it, but I did have to delete the app and reinstall it. And, when I reinstalled all was fixed and my previous game data was saved!! This is an awesome game, so glad the issue was taken care of!!
3 ★ I like the game, but I find that "household expenses" seems a bit arbitrary. It would be awesome if there were a breakdown of what contributes to it.
3 ★ Roman bitlife. Interesting concept but because of poor inheritance mechanics, incredibly wild rng, and very slow progression it can feel like wheel spinning with little interaction and few options. I'll likely give it a better review with more updates but as is it's kinda boring with little to do.
3 ★ It is a very good idea, but the execution isnt that good. There is barely anything to do besides buy property and the occasional random event(i personely got the same events over and over.). It would really benefit the game if you could do more outside of random events. And some of the job names are in Latin and theres no translation or even a description of any job, a job description for the jobs with latin names would be really helpful.
4 ★ Great interesting game. I think as this current build, there is some balance issues on the progression of class. The total value of property is not proportional to the class, even if the kids graduate and contribute to the income. In one my game, I only had 8 low level farms yet I was on class 3 already. It really is hard to sustain with that amount given that for class 3, it is already expensive relative to amount of income. I think it will be more manageable if I am still on class 4.
3 ★ If you lose stewardship there should be a notification that informs you to sell property over the limit. Also when you spend 20k to educate your kid at 250 a month and have it auto cancel? I overall can appreciate this game but it frustrates me more than the $5 price on the game. Good concept but you have a lot of work to make it more enjoyable to play. Overall 3/5. This game is worth a dollar or two at most in it's current state.
3 ★ Fun while rising. Very punitive on the fall. The biggest annoyance is that the game encourages you to have your children marry young. Younger married children means too many kids to the point where it is unmanageable. The game heavily taxes you while your kids are unmarried, and more kids mean less inheritance it is a really punishing game. The game should reduce the consequences of unmarried kids, choose which kids gets the inheritance, or be able to adopt kids, or increase property benefits.
5 ★ I enjoy this game considerably. I've only managed to get to the rank of Equites (I think they're called), and it's intriguing how some of my runs go considerably worse than others. Meanwhile, some times I'll run a surplus of 150 each month for a year, and it makes victory much more rewarding. My biggest criticism is the uncontrolled births. Unfortunately, Household costs make it extremely difficult at a certain stage. I also want to be able to choose which child I become.
4 ★ It isn't a bad game by any stretch, but it definitely does need some work. For instance, I have noticed a spelling error here and there, among some very minor bugs. The main issue, however, is the lack of content/things to do. I very regularly find myself simply smashing the time progression button just so I can get to events like Saturnalia and whatnot. Needs more activities for sure, and maybe even a compendium of all the Roman lore the game offers you to make it more educational.
5 ★ so I jut bought this yesterday, and I love it. played it for 5 hours straight without noticing. I will say the balancing is humbling however challenging. it's not hard to catch on to the game, however one bit of criticism. it seems that the interface for clicking the icons below the characters, doesn't actually show anything, not what it is or how it helps, etc.
3 ★ Pretty good BUT a few major issues that make it not worth $5 YET, maybe $3 in current form. No clear methodology for increasing max amount of land. Arbitrary money caps that just discards money received over the undefined and arbitrary money max. last issue is there is no clear end game, not even a pop up that says "congrats you did it" Also I'd like to suggest some sort of Imperium option like if you get enough money and renown you can declare yourself Caesar
2 ★ Fun for the first hour. Not much to do for trading in game. Not much too do in game. You buy things to make revnue and raise your class level. When raising to another class not much really happens. You grind just to buy land and get in a higher class. Random events have effects with each month. Sacrifice livestock for better blessings and reputation. Growing a family can be hard at first since it eats revenue. But can't do much with family. Apprenticeship for different jobs. Ok game.
1 ★ Used to love this game but now it's almost impossible to play and crashes whenever I get the "Nice animals you have there" event. Usually when this happens you can reset and keep playing but not always. Also they need to deal with some gross historical inaccuracies, add a patron/client system, allow you to purchase slaves, and add more historical events and have an actual ending. Until they fix the bugs I recommend you don't buy it. I'm using version 1.3.7 on Android.
5 ★ Very fun game! I definitely enjoyed the open-endedness of it all. Managing large families can be a challenge though and my one criticism would be that you lose so much of your wealrh during every generational shift. Even if you manage to keep yourself an only child you seem to lose half your wealth as if you were splitting it with a sibling. That didn't make much sense and I wish there was more transparency around that.
4 ★ I love this game. However, id love for some unique events to trigger. Like a murder in the family, assassination, war. And maybe in the future, have some interface for the Senate. This game has unlimited potential and maybe I'm thinking of CK2 but I see where this game can go. Also still glitches.
