Ys is an action-packed, heroic fantasy JRPG game that immerses you in a beautiful Japanese artistic universe. Originally released on PC and PSP in the 2000s, this remake of the famous franchise’s first episode, titled " Ancient Ys Vanished: Omen", returns in a mobile version especially adapted for touch gameplay.
In Ys, you play as Adol Christin, an adventurous young swordsman. Early in the story, you find yourself on a mysterious beach in Esteria, a kingdom whose cities are besieged by hordes of demoniac creatures. Esteria’s people are depending on you to defeat the demons and free the kingdom. To accomplish your goal, you must find six sacred books containing the history of the ancient land of Ys; books which will also provide you with the knowledge to restore peace. Throughout the game, you’ll gain experience and strength by discovering enchanted weapons and artifacts. Become a mighty knight and destroy your enemies!
Ys possesses a rich and poetic atmosphere with beautiful artistic direction, an incredible soundtrack and a deep story. Ys also stands out thanks to its unique fight mode: you must pounce on enemies to attack them ("BUMP" system). 4 ★ I can't speak for the touch controls, but this port of Ys Chronicles 1 works perfectly fine with a controller. Its a near perfect port of Ys Chronicles on PSP. My only complaint is that the translation of the game is not up to par with the psp version as well as other games english localizations. Characters often have different names, Darm tower is called Dahm now, and for some reason Cleria is now Krelia. Dialog is also more stilted, but otherwise its a great port. Totally worth the buy.
4 ★ Awesome Action RPG with an epic story and great characters and music and is accessible and really interesting with awesome epic boss fights. The only issue I have with it is it is way to short, it feels more like a demo than a full game, you can play the whole game through in about 4 hours. They really should have packaged this and its sequel together as one game for a much more complete package
4 ★ The overall presentation is nice and appears well optimized on my device. The combat system may seem weird, but other rpgs had a similar style back in the early crpg days. It actually seems appropriate for a touchscreen device. I deducted one star for the translation and grammatical errors but it doesn't affect the story progression.
5 ★ Good game, acceptable price, having cloud saving would be great since there's nothing different to an emulator version.
5 ★ Ok, 2 things i want to say, this android version is over the top awsame, you toned down the difficauty what i alwasy wanted to see, and because this is the best version of ys, id promoto this app on youtube for free, thats how much i love this app. 5 billion likes if it could.ys 2 is the same. 5 ★ If you are a fan of Ys, this is an excellent port of Ys Chronicles I. Ys is not a strategic RPG with chesslike battles, but a story-rich action RPG with a very simple combat system. This version does have a little variety in attack though, as moving your finger changes the attack a bit allowing for spinning attacks as opposed to just slamming into the enemy in classic Ys fashion. The classic JRPG (by way of France and the emulator masters at Dotemu) is an entertaining and engrossing story.
5 ★ SERIOUSLY!.... THIS IS A GOOD PORT. Controls are surprisingly fine. And if you want, you could also use a Bluetooth Controller. But again, a good game!
4 ★ A great port for a classic game! I really like this port. Runs smooth on my phone. I think it's an identical to the psp port as far as I can tell. Give it a try if you can spare the $6.
2 ★ i love the Y's series im playing Y's Origins on the Xbox one. the reason I gave you guys such a low score is because the controlls are WAY off this NEEDS to be fix its too hard too control. if you fix this i will definitely change my rating if not, unfortunately with a heavy heart I'll have to ask for a refund.
4 ★ The game has beautiful old school graphics and great options for music. The controls took a bit to get used to, and there are translation errors, thus the 4 star review. An enjoyable adventure game.
4 ★ A decent RPG for the android platform. Good graphics and touch controls. An unsophisticated story makes for easy "mobile gaming" where i can pick it up and out it down.
4 ★ excellent game overall. always love the series but have not been playing since the 6th. the English translation is horrible. I bet the google translate could do better job... at least it wont mis-spell.
4 ★ loved this series on turbografx 16.. was talking to someone about this game and decided to look in the store and BAM!! bought both..love the music and gfx.. Controls a bit weird and need getting used to.but a great remake for sure..
5 ★ It's actually a really good game I play alot of RPGs and it took a second getting used to the combat system but I got the hang of it and it's pretty ok
2 ★ The game is presented beautifully, but it's rather dull, and your dude is more or less uncontrollable when using the on-screen pad. It's a shame, because I was quite excited to play this.
