Phom, also known as Ta La or Tu Lo Kho, is a very familiar game to Vietnamese people, commonly played in the north. Ta la is the way to call the South, phom is the way to call the North. When playing Phom, players need to consider finding ways to collect and discard cards to create sets of cards called phom as well as minimize the total score of cards that are not in phom. Using the traditional 52-card deck along with diverse playing styles makes this game even more attractive. At reunions or holidays, this is an indispensable game to entertain family and friends.

Terms in Phom, Ta la
- Phom: Set of 3 or more cards of the same suit with consecutive values, or sets of 3 of the same value.
- Junk cards: Odd cards that do not belong to any Phom.
- ù: The player with 3 phoms (ie no trash cards), this is the absolute winner.
- Stomach: The remaining cards after all the cards have been dealt to the players.
- Mom: When the game ends and the player cannot defeat any Phom => Called Mom.
- Take the pin: Last turn, play a trash card but someone else takes that card.
- Send: In the last turn, if your trash card can be added to the Phom of the player who played the card => You can send that card, and this card will not be counted at the end of the game.
- Compensation: In the last turn, the player takes the previous player's pin => Then any player after that player's turn Ù => The player who just took the pin will be compensated. The person who takes the next peg will have to pay for the person who took the peg first.
+ In addition, if the player gets 3 consecutive cards => it will also be counted as compensation.
- Re: After playing the cards, if someone at the table plays, the cards that have been played will be transferred and you are allowed to play one more turn.

How to play a game of Phom - Ta La
- Each game has at least 2 people, the maximum is usually 4 people. Each person will be dealt 9 cards and the dealer (or winner) will receive 10 cards. All remaining cards after being dealt are called Studs, placed in the middle of the table, not revealed.
- Round of play: counted counterclockwise, starting with the player holding 10 cards.
- How to play:
+ The first person will play any card => The next person will take that card if the card matches the existing cards to form Phom; If you don't win, pick 1 card from the Nocturne.
+ After eating/picking cards, the player plays 1 card => The next person eats the card or picks a card from Noc.
=> The round continues like that.
- The game ends when one person buzzes. If no one Buzzes, the game ends after 4 turns and the trash card points are calculated to determine the winner.
- In the last turn: The player must play all the Phom he has, then send the cards that can be sent to the Phom of the person who laid down the card, then play the last card. The remaining trash cards are used to calculate points.
How to add points for trash cards when no one is buzzing as follows:
+ The person with the lowest score is the winner.
+ A, J, Q, K are scored as 1, 11, 12, 13 respectively. Other cards have the same value as the number in that card.
+ If there are people with the same score, whoever puts down their cards first wins.
- Calculate the final score as follows:
+ First place winner: + 6 points
+ Second place: - 1 point
+ Third place: - 2 points
+ Last runner up: - 3 points
+ The person who gets the pin: - 4 points
+ The person who takes the pin: + 4 points
+ Buzzing person, buzzing khan: + 15 points (of which, each person in the game loses 5 points)
+ Burned/burnt person: loses 4 points for the winner.
