1 ★ Frustrating. Had to look up many of the answers. Re-read the story and still did not understand it. Wasted both money and time.
1 ★ I put in a word, but it gets rejected, so I try other words. No luck. So I try the first one again--and now it works. Stupid game.
5 ★ Great story, poor gaming experience.
1 ★ It doesn't work on my android
1 ★ It's useless. A bit sad. 😔
5 ★ Really enjoyed this game, the story is a great framework to set up a series of word puzzles that don't feel shoe horned in - some of them are a bit tricky, but they give you that "I'm clever' buzz that you get from all the best puzzle games. (Saying that, I did have to look up one of the answers )
4 ★ Very interesting idea which is well-executed for the most part. I did feel that some of the letters had very vague answers to them with no logical way of discerning what the missing words could have been. That did detract from my overall enjoyment of the game, but other than that, it's a chilling story that kept me hooked.
2 ★ An interesting concept for a narrative experience with nothing mechanical to support it. Guessing blindly doesn't really qualify as a mechanic. The possibility space is too broad, and the result isn't really what could be called interactive since it is hard to become invested in a crapshoot. The narrative and prose, at least to where I stopped didn't wow, and are deficient in any real mechanical guidance. Ultimately, this is likely a premise better as an idea than a game, in this form or any other.
1 ★ I got as far as the upside down page, then it would not let me enter any text- click on the black bar and nothing happens. Guess I'll never be able to finish the game. Waste of money!
5 ★ There are three different personalities unfolding at the same time. To figure out the missing word, sometimes you have to consider the personality. The game never requires any cultural orientation. For example the hidden word is not going to be "lorry" vs "truck" unless a clue has been given. Several times I got stuck in the game, and I would just take a couple days and mull the problem. Eventually I would get the flash of insight. I don't think the game was too short. The game has to end sometime.
5 ★ An incredibly inventive title that should have a lot more downloads than it's currently sitting on. For me, thematically, it's preaching to the choir, but that's what I love about it - Blackbar feels like it was made solely for me. If nothing else, I know there's at least another two people out there that feel the way I do about the way things are heading, and the importance of being coherent and uninhibited in our speech and communications. Blackbar says more in a couple of hours than most can muster in a day filled to the brim with tweets, status updates, and photos of lunch. Docile indeed. 5/5
4 ★ Gameplay is unique and well executed. Puzzles are hard without being impossible. Brilliant atmosphere and engrossing story. Ending is one of the least satisfying I've ever encountered - wanted to scream it was so lame.
3 ★ It's fun but I think it's bugged out. I can't get past this level where she describes her boss being picky and I know the censored word was 'demanding" because it makes sense and I looked up a walk through but it doesn't work! I've tried every reasonable word for that particular phrase and I can't get past it!
5 ★ I enjoyed it. Never played a game like it. It was long enough and I liked the ending. You have no impact on the outcome, you're strictly along for the ride, but it's an interesting ride. The sense of gleeful malice emanating from The Department is horrific, and at times a little jarring.
2 ★ A good and innovative concept, however if you got stuck on anything, that was it. You either had to keep staring at the puzzle hoping you'd come up with a word you hadnt tried yet, or you had to look it up on line (something i hate doing). And some of the words were pretty tough!
