Star Battle can be classified as an object placement puzzle, like Battleship or Trees and Tents, and as binary determination puzzle, like Hitori or Nurikabe. Users often refer to it as an interesting cross between Sudoku and Minesweeper. It is also known as "Two Not Touch", under which name it is published in The New York Times, and "Queens", under which a 1-star version of the puzzle is available on LinkedIn. The puzzle is created by Hans Eendebak for the 2003 World Puzzle Championship.

5 ★ Great user experience! A fun game, many levels for each difficulty, and minimal ads. I love that it has hints so you don't have to just guess but can actually learn how to solve the harder levels.
5 ★ Having the same colors, even though separated by other regions, is distracting. How about a color option with distinct colors for every region? Edit: I appreciate the prompt reply. I had missed region background option. I suggest either grouping the color settings next to each other, or combining them into one setting menu option. Gray scale is very much like a theme. Completely missed that this is only 2 star games. Edit: Bumping to 5 stars, based on excellent developer responsiveness.
5 ★ This game is so fun and pretty. I love that you can change the colors whenever you want. Star Battles gets challenging pretty quickly, making you think about each move, so it's never boring and it feels extra rewarding when you figure it out. Highly recommend!
5 ★ Played a different version of this game by someone else, and that version decided to play audio ads in the middle of the level. So I immediately uninstalled and found this. So much better. Only plays an ad after a level and that's it. I can handle that. I do wish it automatically placed dots surrounding the stars like in the other version. (Edit: You can) And having a daily challenge was also nice. But there's plenty of levels here so it's not a big deal. This became the better game!
