Description
How does Chess Sudoku work? Well we’ve taken the classic sudoku game everyone knows and loves and created puzzles with chess-related twists! There are three different types of puzzles in the game: Knight Sudoku; King Sudoku and Queen Sudoku (coming after launch as a free update!).
In Knight Sudoku, in addition to the normal rules of sudoku (no repeated digit in a row/column/3x3 box) a digit must not appear a chess knight’s move away from itself. This simple extra restriction introduces lots of clever additional logic that makes the puzzle even more interesting!
King Sudoku and Queen Sudoku work the same way: ie it’s always normal sudoku but, in King Sudoku a digit must not be a single diagonal move away from itself; and, in Queen Sudoku, every 9 in the grid acts like a chess Queen and must not be in the same row/column/3x3 box OR diagonal of any other 9!
As with their other games (‘Classic Sudoku’ and ‘Sandwich Sudoku’), Simon Anthony and Mark Goodliffe (the hosts of Cracking The Cryptic) have personally crafted the hints for the puzzles. So you know that every puzzle has been play-tested by a human being to ensure that the sudoku is interesting and fun to solve.
In Cracking The Cryptic’s games, players start with zero stars and earn stars by solving puzzles. The more puzzles you solve, the more stars you earn and the more puzzles you get to play. Only the most dedicated (and cleverest) sudoku players will finish all the puzzles. Of course the difficulty is carefully calibrated to ensure lots of puzzles at every level (from easy through to extreme). Anyone familiar with their YouTube channel will know that Simon and Mark take pride in teaching to be better solvers and, with their games, they always craft the puzzles with the mindset of trying to help solvers improve their skills.
Mark and Simon have both represented the UK many times at the World Sudoku Championship and you can find more of their puzzles (and lots of others) on the internet’s biggest sudoku channel Cracking The Cryptic.

5 ★ Well worth the price. Even after finishing every puzzle, I went back and tried and tried until I got times I was happy with. Got quite a bit of play time out of it.
5 ★ Great app, lots of good hand-crafted sudoku. Ignore all the people pointing out issues with queen sudoku, they've all just misunderstood the rules, despite the fact that they're clearly explained in the app itself.
3 ★ Great games but massive battery sap. Should combine the apps into one with extra packs. If you don't solve them the same way as the person who set the puzzle thinks you will, then the hints can be quite useless. They assume you've already got to a certain point and are stuck there.
3 ★ This might seem nitpicky, and I apologize for such, but the "highlight restricted cells" doesn't work for the queen sudoku puzzles, and the handy "?" button in the corner of the queen sudoku puzzle also only displays the rules of classic sudoku. I know you guys have been swamped, so this may be a simple error, but I figured you should know.
4 ★ If you're not here for the hints, no worries, it's a great app. The hints often are completely incorrect. Hint #3 on puzzle 16 of chess sudoku says you can place a 7 in column 4, but there's 2 possibilities for 7 in the column, in the box, and in the row. I think this also skews the difficulty on puzzles with incorrect hints, usually making them far harder than their star rating as the puzzles WOULD be easy enough if they worked the way the hints suggest.
5 ★ Got here from "Cracking the cryptic" channel. Great app. Has many quality-of-life features to guard you from being disappointed when it's getting hard. Queen sudoku needs some work, but I'll give you the credit, because the rest is great. Totally worth it!
1 ★ No new puzzles in over three months, despite the promise of five new puzzles a month. Really disappointing.
5 ★ Oh wow I love this app. I am really enjoying the last update. The combination of the Chess moves with Sudoku is amazing! As I finish puzzle after puzzle I am so satisfied with the amount of logic that has washed through my brain.
5 ★ Puzzles I love grinding at and learn from. So much better than machine-built puzzles. Handcrafted with handcrafted hints. Great stuff.
4 ★ The description says it updates frequently but it rarely ever does. I think I've seen 2 updates since I downloaded it in April or May.
5 ★ Its a great little app for sudoku. But the new Queen game mode doesn't quite work. It doesn't follow the restraints set out, and there ends up being repeated digits along diagonals
2 ★ Real fun, but drains my battery in mere minutes. Would not recommend because of it.
3 ★ Slightly disappointing that the very first Queen's move Sudoku is broken from the very start, not allowing an 8 anywhere in box 1. However, I have not had a problem with any Knight or Kings move puzzles. Overall I think with a little tweaking, and more puzzles in total, this app would be worth it.
2 ★ I love the puzzle and I even watch them on YouTube, they are really fun but I finished them all ages ago and need more puzzles. Is there any coming soon?
5 ★ Hours and hours of unique and challenging puzzles worth the price and love the new queen soduko addition ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
