4 ★ Great app. Timely news, good graphics, excellent content. I like that I can bookmark articles, download if desired, and search by category or region. The Guardian has been diligent in creating a model of reader-funded journalism, which is an unfortunate byproduct of the destruction of local news, but I'm happy to support excellent journalism at this reasonable monthly rate. UPDATE: Regarding app functionality - I really dislike that there is no search function!! Removing 1 star.
3 ★ Not better than web. The interface is fine, but I can't open articles in new tabs, and signing in is a little clunky. I'll just use the web version, which is already pretty nice in mobile. (Similar for the daily version; I can't really tell what the benefit would be, and sign in didn't sync between them so I'd have to find and enter my digital subscriber ID again.) Plus, I'm always annoyed by a prompt to review (though I appreciated the explicit questions about notifications when setting up).
5 ★ It works extremely well. The news has a different viewpoint than American apps. I read this an the New York times daily. I find the guardian more informative. Also, no problem using app, I experience repeated problems loading the times. I cancelled my subscription to the times for that reason. I plan on subscribing to the Guardian. It is an excellent source of news.
2 ★ I like the app a lot. It's well made and easy to navigate, despite the paywall for the live and discovery sections. My problem is with the articles themselves. These guys are so anti-police that every time there's a police shooting, they edit the body camera footage down to a few second, ignoring ALL the context of the situation, and just leave out all sorts of stuff about the incident itself.
5 ★ The Guardian app is reliably fast and includes many useful tools which help the user expedite searching and reading. The formatting for the mobile device screen size has worked flawlessly on my iPhone and Android screens. The app, thankfully, is not a battery drain and won't make your phone heat up while in use. As to the quality of content, I can't say enough about the thorough, unbiased and accurate reporting presented by The Guardian. One of my top 3 go-to sources of trustworthy news.
5 ★ Your news coverage is awesome, broad, comprehensive and thorough and the app refreshingly functions properly and reliably in the "free" version. I live on a fixed income and unfortunately cannot afford the "premium" version which seems to unlock many great options. I've tried many news services and The Guardian is by far the absolute best!! Thank you!!
1 ★ This is the first time I've been moved to review. I'm on multiple media/social media forums, and this is the first one I Could. Not. Figure. Out, in the app nor the desktop site. It's anti-intuitive, disorganized, and redundant. Also, as a print journalist displaced by the economy, I thought I'd never say this -- but the constant attempts to get me to pay for a subscription are INSANE. I GET that journalism isn't free! But it's not possible for me TODAY and it won't stop. Uninstalling.
5 ★ Balanced, well-researched, and insightful news, commentary, and investigative journalism. No hesitation spending money on a subscription to support this excellent work, even though they offer the content for free. Journalism of this quality is rare these days, and must be supported. I've had no problems with the app - it works well and is easy to navigate.
5 ★ perfect app to read the guardian. easy to use save options and customisable main screens - i can add favorite reporters to the main page to make my own paper. can also receive email updates...email updates are overwhelming, unlike other newspaper apps. nor am i bombarded with ads on the app or in rmails from the guardian, unlike the big paper from nyc!
5 ★ A really great app to read a really great European newspaper for a more objective take on U.S. news. It is totally worth it to upgrade to the premium version, and while you're at it, consider making a donation of at least a few bucks to help keep great journalism funded. Otherwise, all we are going to have for our news is the rantings of idiots on Twitter who don't even have a clue about how to fact check anything nor any inclination to do so.
3 ★ The Guardian used to be my go-to news app. I still appreciate The Guardian's standard of journalistic integrity and independence. The articles are also superbly written. The editorial commentary (which I find to be very fair & impartial) is always clearly kept separate from the articles themselves. However, I've unsubscribed because a subscription isn't recognised (or synced) on a new device. Also, the 'Live Article' format – which is inappropriately used – makes the articles unreadable.
5 ★ Good quality general news app with detailed content. Yes, it has a left wing bias, but that goes with the territory. Besides, most right wing equivalents like the Telegraph charge for the same level of access. On a technical front, the app hasn't suffered any glitches in my experience and I've had no issues accessing content. Generally very pleased.
1 ★ Will soon not just require a login to use, but also a subscription. Why bother using this app instead of the website? Also, as a previous subscriber, editorial direction has been going downhill for most of the past decade. The paper is now much more toothless, preferring to often punch down at the marginalised and cowering in the face of power.
2 ★ This is near useless unless you have a subscription, it is crammed with ads and needs an account or subscription for things that should work perfectly without. However I can see that underneath the ads and the subscription popups it can be a very handy and nice to use app with the nice UX, so I am not massively upset about it. I'm still going to uninstall it and go back to the website.
4 ★ The app clearly works better if you are a subscriber to the newspaper. As such, the few niggles I have are a tendency to move between articles too readily while scrolling, that pages don't always scroll until images are loaded (which can be slow on a poor connection) and that the interface from Google search may go to the app or the website.
