Description
Garmin Pilot is a comprehensive aviation application that allows pilots to plan, file, fly and log with ease.
Garmin Pilot is the most comprehensive suite of tools for Android designed specifically for general aviation and corporate pilots. Flight planning, filing, charts, interactive maps, weather briefing resources and navigation capabilities; it’s all included. The app’s intuitive interface mirrors those on the newest Garmin touchscreen avionics so you can go seamlessly from preflight to inflight. Plan, file, fly with Garmin Pilot.
Plan
Garmin Pilot’s powerful capabilities start with pre-flight planning, providing pilots with the most comprehensive aviation weather information to make better-informed flight decisions. Pilots can check NEXRAD radar, visible and infrared cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, PIREPs, TFRs and lightning data. With Garmin Pilot, data can be displayed over a VFR sectional or an IFR low or high en-route chart to visualize the weather for your route. Add text-based weather widgets and use the exclusive NavTrack feature to view weather along the planned route.
File
With Garmin Pilot, users can easily enter a flight plan. Pre-loaded forms make it quick to save and reuse data for frequently flown routes. And when the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot makes it simple to file, cancel or close the flight plan.
Fly
Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capability on its moving map, while showing ETE, ETA, cross track error, distance to waypoint and current position.
Log
Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based upon GPS data collected during the flight, tracks currency, supports manual entries, endorsements and creates reports.
Garmin Pilot. It’s the app aviators have been waiting for.
Features include:
- Charts: VFR Sectionals, low and high IFR en-route, airport diagrams and approach procedures
- Optional geo-reference Garmin FliteCharts® and Garmin SafeTaxi® show aircraft position on approach charts and taxiways
- Weather Maps: Animated radar, AIRMETs/SIGMETs, Lightning, PIREPs, METARs/TAFs, Winds Aloft, TFRs, Infrared and Visible Satellite
- Extensive text products: METARs, TAFs, Winds Aloft, PIREPs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, Area Forecasts and NOTAMs
- Dynamic weather overlays with your route displayed on map

Ratings and Reviews

3 ★ Poor quality. Did not use the app for couple of months, renewed subscription and noticed how much slower the app has become. Same hardware that I used before, but now app is painfully slow on both phone and tablet. Chart resolution seems higher than before, but slowdown is unbearable. Sometimes app gets stuck at startup while "downloading required downloads". I had to delay one flight by about an hour just to reinstall the app on tablet and phone because both were stuck on the start screen.
1 ★ Although it has a few good qualities, it is highly unreliable. To the point that if certain items in the menus are selected (such as demo mode or any IFR overlay), the app crashes and must be deleted and reinstalled to return functionality, it has no "self heal" capability. The flight planning is difficult to manipulate, lacking basic functions such as being able drag a waypoint to a different point the nav log order once entered, making on-the-fly changes dangerous for IFR. The logbook function is very glitchy, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. The safe taxi also flip-flops if you don’t taxi at exactly the correct speed, requiring user intervention at times when you don’t want it. The downloads and updates are also constantly hanging up – requiring restart and long periods of sorting and searching for what you want, and if you use the “download all” it needs 30gb and will loose it if you have to reset for the first issues. All in all, it feels very underdeveloped. But the good side is the colors are nice. It's great for a flight sim, but don't trust it in an actual aircraft.
3 ★ I like this app a lot and it works well. I wanted to try it out on my Note 9 (with stylus) as I am working on my instrument rating. However, for some bizarre reason, the Scratch Pad is not available on the phablet versions of the app (as confirmed by phone tech support). I can get all the other features, but the Scratch Pad is important for taking down weather and clearances, etc. It's important to find a cockpit workflow and not having the Scratch Pad is a real downer. At least give users the option - they can decide on their phone version/ screen size, etc.
2 ★ What is the point of including weather if it is so difficult to find predictions? A slide on the bottom right allows the user to look at the previous hour of weather, but what about the future?? Why not include a slide which leads to forecasted winds and weather, making it easier to plan? The menus are clunky, and the checkpoints are annoying. Please include an option to [remove all checkpoints] please. As of now, I use the aviation weather site for my flight planning, even after paying for this
2 ★ I am currently using this app for IFR flight training. Some features of it are very nice, and there are parts of it that are easier to use than the other apps I have used, however, there are some very unacceptable features of it. I have had issues with it crashing, blocking features after updates, and many more small bugs. Overall if you have a product that is compatible and are planning on going for a commercial rating i would have to recommend ForFlight. Works well for VFR training.
4 ★ Absolutely love it on my Galaxy Tab S8, which adds the extra benefit of the stylus on split screen for taking notes without switching away from the map. Love the split screen widget tool. Planning is easy and love the ease of filing. Interface is snappy and well organized. Simply a nearly perfect EFB, and runs on the more flexible and versatile Android Tab and Phone. Will go back up to 5 stars once the recently introduced performance issue on split screen with the scratch pad is resolved.
2 ★ Something is always broken. Every update breaks something important. I have used this for 3 years and it is still the best android EFB. I have the premium subscription and they're is always a key party that doesn't work. This week it was ADS-B connectivity. I carry 2 Garmin units, GDL-50 and GDL-39. neither would connect. Fortunately my phone had not updated and read able to fly the first leg. If you use this app, you must b technically savvy enough to find and install and older version.
5 ★ I use Pilot on Android and iOS. I'm about to renew my subscription for the third time. I get that lots of folks love Foreflight, but I don't understand why. I really like the safety factor that the dual OS redundancy offers. If my iPad takes a dive during a flight, due to some bad OS update, I can pull out my Android phone and continue without disruption. Garmin has done well with this. Now, if they could just market it better, I'm confident we'd see more Foreflight defections.
3 ★ Consistently broken. Slow to seriously update unlike the ios version. Most updates are touted as major but amount to small meaningless changes. Update 7.7.0 failed, so they made 7.7.2...then 7.7.3 in the span of a few days. And now the sync process is broken. I have no idea if my logbook will sync to the cloud or if I am going to be stuck entering everything manually again!!! I have had it. I recommend Android go to avare or make the sad lead to ios devices and go foreflight.
2 ★ Pilot would get a better rating if many releases did not break it. My most recent failure is that an installed and working copy demanded a new download which failed. Uninstalling and reinstalling now hangs at startup and crashes thereafter if "Force Stopped". I am AOG without charts at this point. Fortunately this did not happen when on a trip and I only lose the use of my aircraft until it gets fixed. Now on the third day after reporting the issue to support. Now on the third month, 4th release
1 ★ FAIL! When I first started using this app it worked ok. With latest updates I can't use subscribed services, app won't work with external devices, ridiculous pop-ups everytime i rotate my device, terrain alerts won't turn off for low level flight and it has never worked 100 percent as advertised. To make matters worse, I can't find any way to get someone on the phone for any customer support. This is a Garmin FAIL! Free apps work better!
1 ★ Great features but does not work on my Galaxy S8. I have been in contact with support but no resolve or real feedback for months. I don't know if they are ACTUALLY looking into the matter. - will not use device GPS. confirmed all settings and permissions are correct. Device GPS confirmed functional with diagnostic app. - NAV log will not update to currently selected flight plan. - synch and map download unreliable. April 2019 - still not fixed. Time for subscription renewal. May try Foreflight.
3 ★ I have been using Garmin Pilot for almost a year.I have run into a couple of issues with the latest version 7.7.3. When touching the airport the radial information is not always accurate, this was not the case with the previous versions. The latest addition of the approach and departure procedures although welcome, it is poorly implemented. The approach plates are Geo referenced to the center of the airport, waypoints are not automatically loaded. Clearly, several years behind current standards.
1 ★ Disappointing experience overall. Terrible user experience design, which they seem to refuse to admit even though people always talk about it. What's a chart vs a map vs an overlay, non-standard terms and bad navigation. There's really no support if you have an issue; uninstall it, redownload gigs of data again, and hope for the best. Something quits working again, same hour-long routine. No support for hardware outside the Garmin ecosystem.
2 ★ This version of the app is nowhere near as nice as it is on iOS. Many features are missing and the user interface looks like it's from the old days of Android. The one feature I love on my iPad is showing what VORs have NOTAMS and that feature isn't on this version of the app. Garmin PLEASE FIX and this app could become five stars!
