Description

Want an easy way to record the birds you see, and keep track of what you have seen? The BirdTrack app makes recording your sightings easy and your birdwatching more rewarding; plus your sightings support research and conservation at the local, national and global scale. Whether you want to record single sightings of those special birds or make a list of all the birds you see whilst birdwatching on a local patch you can do both from the palm of your hand. This free app links directly to your BirdTrack account on the web and acts as your digital notebook, enabling you to quickly and easily record the information you want for the birds (and some other wildlife groups) you see.

With our app, you can:
• Select the species you saw from an illustrated checklist of the most likely species based on BirdTrack data for your location and the time of year.
• Offline mapping and observation recording, enabling use in places with no data connection.
• Keep records of birds seen anywhere in the world.
• See suggestions of local birdwatching places; add records for these popular places to help monitor their bird populations.
• Add sightings for some other taxa groups, including amphibians, butterflies, dragonflies, mammals, orchids, and reptiles. (UK only).
• View and edit previous sightings directly on your device.
• View a map of recent sightings made by the BirdTrack community.
• Keep track of your year and life lists, plus see lists of ‘target’ species seen by other BirdTrack users.
• Option to share your sightings via social media.
• Add optional information to your sightings, including breeding evidence, plumage details, and sensitive record settings to control the visibility of your records.
• Sightings are seamlessly synchronised with your BirdTrack account, so you can see all your observations whether you are viewing via your device or via the website.

1 ★ Terrible! I've not used this since 2017, because of technical issues using the app. Unfortunately, I couldn't have imagined it would get any worse. It jammed on first opening and It won't allow me to log into my old account, and it crashes when I try to create a new one. Obviously BTO couldn't be bothered to gain records because it seems like they are no longer interested in making sure the app works as it has had issue for YEARS! Score of 2.1 says it all!! So much for conservation.

5 ★ This app has recently been updated and is now a huge improvement on the old version. Site setup / selection is much easier with clear mapping. Ad hoc single species recording is also very slick. And the ability to record other species groups as well as birds is very useful. Highly recommended.

5 ★ The brand new version of the app is a vast improvement and well worth using. Counting and note taking in the field is much easier than ever before, plus I love the auto generated weather data. The checklist feature is a nice touch too. Highly recommended.

5 ★ Excellent update which has really improved the facility making recording in the field even easier. I particularly like the ability to add casual one-off records with only a few taps and the site being automatically added by the system. All birdwatchers should be using it !

1 ★ I've tried downloading the app several times but it doesn't work. When prompted to create an account, I get half way through filling the forms and when I reach the T's & C's page it bugs out and sends me back to the home page. The app can't be used without creating an account which it doesn't let you do.

1 ★ Unfortunately terrible. The old app actually functioned, why was it ever replaced? App crashes regularly, data entered isn't recognised or it just vanishes, too many more bugs to mention. C'mon BTO, we're trying to help by adding records, but this app is actively turning people away.

5 ★ The new version is much improved, easy to add single records and adjust counts or add comments. Uploading is now simplified. A great tool for recording as part of the important data collection on the status or occurrence of birds. A must for every birder.

5 ★ Very impressed with the update, which is a complete overhaul of the app. I stopped using the previous version as it was dated and the UI was poor. I'll be using this instead of the website now.

5 ★ Have now used the new version everyday for a week, much improved and very easy to use. Mind you I never had any real problems with the old version. Particularly like that I can quickly find species using the BTO two letter codes.

4 ★ Easy to add sightings - the process runs smoothly. Sometimes the sightings map can be temperamental when viewing other locations. No problems otherwise, and it's great to contribute to BTO data while out for a walk!

4 ★ Easier to use than the old version. The map features are much better integrated into the recording process, especially when visiting a new location. Its bice to see the species icons, not necessary for experienced birdrrs but useful for newcomers

1 ★ Unable to register or sign in - not working at all. I downloaded the app, and followed the instructions, as a new user I had to enter a new password, unfortunately none were accepted. I registered on the website and then tried to log in via the app, but again couldn't log in. Unable to use the app at all without logging in.

1 ★ Tried to log on and register for recording our birds but the app refused to allow any password as acceptable. I tried a random mix of punctuation, numbers, and capital and lower case letters at a length of 30 characters and it still said it was "inadequate". Why does it need to be secure? It's a list of birds in my garden!

5 ★ The new version 2022 is without doubt a transformation into the most useful app out in the field. Even better is the ease of recording one-off sightings worthy of note. It always was a good app but now this app is a worthy mate for the equally wonderful desk top Birdtrack site.

2 ★ How did this layout get approved? I tried this app because where I live, people use this as opposed to eBird. So I thought I would give it a go. Not user friendly at all.very difficult to navigate around the app and how to use it. I was within 50m of a birding spot. Could I find it easily? Nope. I'm not someone that generally has problems using apps. The fact this app is not user friendly is disappointing. The one plus is when writing bird names it acts quickly.
