Brought to you by NYC Cyber Command, NYC Secure alerts users to cyber threats such as:
● unsecure or “rogue” Wi-Fi networks;
● hijacking online transactions; and,
● phishing detection and education tools.
The app alerts you to threats and recommends ways you can protect your data and device.
You have the option to enable a VPN in the NYC Secure app to verify if suspicious links sent to you through text, email, a messaging app, or social media are safe or a possible phishing attempt.
App permissions
NYC Secure 5.3.21.1 APK requires following permissions:
Allows an application to receive the ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED that is broadcast after the system finishes booting.
Allows access to the vibrator.
Allows applications to access information about networks.
Allows applications to open network sockets.
Allows an app to access precise location.
Required to be able to access the camera device.
Allows applications to access information about Wi-Fi networks.
Allows applications to change Wi-Fi connectivity state.
Allows applications to change network connectivity state.
Allows an application to read from external storage.
Allows an application to write to external storage.
Permission an application must hold in order to use ACTION_REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS.
Allows an application to request deleting packages.
Allows read only access to phone state, including the phone number of the device, current cellular network information, the status of any ongoing calls, and a list of any PhoneAccounts registered on the device.
Allows an app to access approximate location.
Allows an application to receive SMS messages.
Allows using PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming.

2 ★ I've had to uninstall this app twice recently as it's started to interfere with functionality on other apps. Oh well.
4 ★ Provides basic security alerts for networks and apps, and does it well. At the moment there doesn't seem to be a way to clear the alerts log. Perhaps this can be included in a future update.
1 ★ 1984 at its finest. The Eula tells you cant decompile or "reverse Engineer" the app, but don't worry '3rd party Security experts' have verified it's safe! Also it doesnt collect personal information, but does create a personal identifier for you that's shared (read EULA). This app scans your phone and makes sure you don't have any state unapproved apps on it as well. Long Live Big Brother and the Party! This document is living proof of my undying love for my authoritarian overlords!
4 ★ It does its just but I can't unmark "developer mode" as a threat. Thats like giving a 5-star chef a safety knife.
4 ★ So far is seems very good. Only negative is no notification setting directly in the app. Had to go to App info to turn off persistent notification.
3 ★ constantly crashes, slows down my phone and when I try opening the app it just says loading - forever.. Too many bugs it needs some fixing...
