In addition to the knowledge film project “Moritz Daniel Oppenheim goes to school”, which is unique in the German educational media landscape, we have developed an app (together with the filmmaker Isabel Gathof) with which you can not only learn about important stages in the life of the first Jewish painter with an academic education - Moritz Daniel Oppenheim (1800-1882) - can explore on site in his hometown of Hanau, but also from home using your smartphone to learn more about the milestones in the development of the former Jewish ghetto the path to middle class.

In collaboration with the likeable TV presenter Eric Mayer, who already presented the documentary, you will use our app to get to know exciting points of interest in Hanau's cityscape in the form of videos, texts and much more, some of which have become invisible today for M.D. Oppenheim's career path was of central importance and thus traces the path of a young, aspiring artist in the age of Jewish emancipation.

There are two modes to choose from, in which you can get to know “Jewish Hanau” in a completely different way with your smartphone:

The hiking day mode allows you to discover each of the 12 different stations of the “Hanau Tour” according to your own taste and pace, whenever and wherever you want.

In the scavenger hunt mode, you have to unlock one point of interest after the other by answering topic- and location-related questions in order to progress.
