Download the latest FBReader TTS+ Plugin application, version 3.7.4, compatible with Windows 10/11 (using emulators such as Bluestacks), Android devices. This free Books & Reference app is developed by Hyperionics Technology and is easy to download and install.

Description
IMPORTANT: You need Text-To-Speech engine and voices installed on your device to use this app. If you don't have one yet, pickup from Play Store - the good quality TTS engines there are Acapela, Ivona and SVOX. You may use more than one if you want.
* Bluetooth play/pause and previous/next controls are handled correctly
* Plays in the background and Bluetooth controls are still handled, allowing you for example to use Navigation software on your phone while driving somewhere and listening to your book at the same time, and pausing/resuming playback as needed.
* Android 4.2 and higher - lock screen widget to pause/resume, next/previous sentence, view book title and progress. This widget can be also used on the home screen under older versions of Android.
* Read by sentences - the plugin pauses and resumes at individual sentences, instead of entire paragraphs. Upon resume, you don't have to listen from the beginning of a long paragraph again.
* Enhanced control panel to set book language, open system TTS Settings to change speech engine, control speech rate, pitch and volume, more...
* The control panel can be minimized to display only a row of small buttons at the bottom over the main FBReader screen, if you want to watch the text it reads at the same time.
* Sleep timer
* Can highlight individual sentences instead of full paragraphs, but this requires a small code change in the main FBReader code.

ABOUT PERMISSIONS: In ver. 1.5.7 added WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission, needed for TTS activation on some devices.

4 ★ Only suggestions/requests I have would be too have a search function for the speech edits. My list of speech edits is rather long and I try to have them in alphabetical order to locate them easier. Even so, sometimes I still can't find one and I'm not even convinced it's there, but if I try to put in another to override the list one, it doesn't work. My other suggestion would be to add the ability to assign priority to individual edits.
5 ★ The tts enhancement abilities of this devs' apps are incredible. FBReader is pretty great & this is a must have add-on. Unfortunately it does stop reading quite often. It doesn't handle coming out of background well, usually closing. The sleep timer is a nightmare to deal with & should have been worked on ages & ages ago. It is still great though, especially if you just set the timer, start the playing, lock the device & don't use it at all otherwise until your set time is up (& hope it keeps playing).
1 ★ Update June 2018: the TTS+plugin no longer appears to work in FBReader. You can still launch the plugin, select a language/voice, but then it just sits there for a couple of seconds before disappearing.
1 ★ Great idea. But the option doesn't appear most of the time. Interface has an annoying message or ad on top. And it doesn't appear in the installed plugins list of fbreader. I'll uninstall and install again. First impression hasn't been good. I reinstalled twice. Still doesn't appear in Fbreader. I noticed it's also no longer developed or supported. Looking for another reader now that uses tts.
2 ★ I have problem with this App on Huawei Mate 9, stop to read every few minutes and crash FB Reader App time to time. Didn't have any problems with this Apps on any Android devices before.
1 ★ Doesn't work. Won't play and disappears after a few seconds. Very buggy. So dissapointed. I have been working very hard to find something that can read my ebooks out loud but nothing comes easy I guess.
5 ★ I really love this app! It turns my ebooks to audiobooks. Sometimes when the addict in me can't stop myself from reading (coz my eyes are hurting already) or I have to do something but want to still read, it helps me by reading the book for me.. Thanks so much for making this app! God bless!
1 ★ Simply does not work anymore. Latest combination of fbreader and tts+ plugin stopped working. I've been using both on several phones for years. Now it doesn't work. Panel shows up, with disabled rate/pitch sliders and unresponsive play button and then closes without a trace a few seconds later. Oh, yes, stop button works. Re-installed, rebooted, no change.
1 ★ The app used to work, and the app opens, but if I try to open the app in FB it closes the app and fb just opens with the book. I have tried troubleshooting this issue and I am Frustrated that the app doesn't work seemlessly. Until an update occurs that fixes this I am staying away from this app.
3 ★ EDIT: This plugin is abandoned. App developer will no longer update this app, he wants you to use his @Voice Aloud Reader app. Disappointed. Best thing out there to read books to you. This along with IVONA voice Amy makes for a great listening session.
5 ★ Been using for years, has always worked well for me and love it with Cereproc voices. Wish I could still use Ivona and Svox voices too, but that's a google playstore issue and nothing to do with FBReader
2 ★ Non-functional on chromebook (android app). Will read but app won't give focus back to FBReader to see pages. Is not able to read text in PDF files.
3 ★ A really older version was nice. The recent versions keep stopping in the middle of reading taking away the fun of reading with this app. It has to be cleared completely from the device memory before it can be restarted. Unless this issue is rectified am going to look for another app.
