Description
Laozi (Chinese: 老子; pinyin: Lǎozǐ; Wade–Giles: Lao Tzu; also romanized as Lao Tse, Lao Tu, Lao-Tsu, Laotze, Laosi, Laocius, and other variations) was a mystic philosopher of ancient China, best known as the author of the Tao Te Ching (often simply referred to as Laozi). His association with the Tao Te Ching has led him to be traditionally considered the founder of Taoism (pronounced as "Daoism"). He is also revered as a deity in most religious forms of Taoist philosophy, which often refers to Laozi as Taishang Laojun, or "One of the Three Pure Ones".
Laozi is an honorific title. Lao (老) means "venerable" or "old", such as modern Mandarin laoshi (老师), "teacher". Zi (子), Wade-Giles transliteration tzu, in this context is typically translated "master". Zi was used in ancient China as an honorific suffix, indicating "Master", or "Sir". In popular biographies, Laozi's given name was Er, his surname was Li (forming Li Er, 李耳) and his courtesy name was Boyang. Dan is a posthumous name given to Laozi, and he is sometimes referred to as Li Dan (李聃).
According to Chinese traditions, Laozi lived in the 6th century BCE. Historians variously contend that Laozi is a synthesis of multiple historical figures, that he is a mythical figure, or that he actually lived in the 5th-4th century BCE, concurrent with the Hundred Schools of Thought and Warring States Period.
A central figure in Chinese culture, both nobility and common people claim Laozi in their lineage. He was honored as an ancestor of the Tang imperial family, and was granted the title Taishang xuanyuan huangdi, meaning "Supreme Mysterious and Primordial Emperor". Xuanyuan and Huangdi are also, respectively, the personal and proper names of the Yellow Emperor. Throughout history, Laozi's work has been embraced by various anti-authoritarian movements.

5 ★ I like a bit of All wisdom and spiritual tradition, and this is a nice addition (in the palm of my hands...I might add!). Update 10- 19-16...simply wont work anymore. Crashes...says "must have internet even when I do have internet". Enjoyed it before...hope it gets going again!
5 ★ compare this to Facebook,Chrome&BusinessCalendar~ they are so different but This app is just as helpful despite the lack of connectivity with outside people. Connecting with yourself is so important and this app has some very deep quotes that can almost always relate to exactly what you are thinking about. Thank you for making this and providing it for free and helping people to see the good all around.
4 ★ 1.It will be good that quotes could be found by searching key words. Good to allow text to be copied and pasted to allow sharing. Be sincere when we share our thoughts. Truthful words are not beautiful. Beautiful words are not truthful. Lao Tze.
4 ★ I like this app coz it gives us more wisdom and insight about life. But it would be much better if you design the outlook to be more interesting and enjoyable. Now it has a great message but lil bit boring.
5 ★ Again, one not need be a Taoist (i'm a Jedi myself) to appreciate this ancient wisdom preserved in this application. Which like the Bible, seems to retain a divine degree of relevance in today's world. Beautiful to look at, easy to navigate, even share favorite quotes with those you feel can appreciate them via messaging. A MUST for any student of history, religion, philosophy, or free thinking.
4 ★ and documented accurately, but they are great quotes. Particularly, "if you don't change direction, you might end up where you're heading."
5 ★ Nice helpful app. In regards to advertisements being included; I let not the presence of them, pull me out of the joy of reading a passage: not even for a moment.

1 ★ I opened. It tells a quote. No way to select it to favorite. It is nothing but quotes with help to understand the meaning or to gain growth in wisdom.
