DRIVING TOUR ROUTE
The tour has commentary everywhere on the island that you will want to explore. We recommend dividing the island into at least 2 driving days. Start at Waikiki or join anywhere along the route.
1) Island Circle Tour. Worth a full day on its own. Major highlights on this tour include the North Shore Beaches, Dole Plantation, Laie, Chinamans Hat, ByodoIn Temple, Pali Lookout and more. If you start early you can combine with the Beaches and Volcanoes Tour. Drive either clockwise or counter-clockwise around the island.
2) Beaches & Volcanoes Tour. Complete in a half day, or make lots of stops to easily fill a full day. Places to see include Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Halona Blowhole, Kailua, Lanikai, Pali Lookout, Punchbowl Crater and more. Hanauma Bay is closed every Tuesday.

NOTES
Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network.
++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle.

5 ★ For our 4 island trip to Hawaii we bought and used both Gypsy Guide and the "other guys" (the ones with thumb and little finger extended). We found the Gypsy Guide the better of the two for two main reasons. 1. It worked. We had problems downloading and executing the other guys. At times the other one "jumped" locations, especially if the commentary was at a tight turn. And in one case, we gave up trying to download the other guy and bought Gypsy guide and downloaded it on the move! 2. We (four of us in our 60's) liked the voice on GyPSy guide the best. The other guy wanted to jump into "surfer" talk too many times. This is purely a taste thing. Though the other one made it easier to look ahead on the map and actually see the text of what the narrator was speaking. Gypsy guide had a problem of always wanting to return to center your location on the map... so much so that it was very hard, to almost impossible to look ahead on the map. And though there may have been a way to see the text... it wasn't obvious enough to find it on the go.
5 ★ Beware: this app does not play well with USB charging ports or Android Auto. We only had a USB charging cable, so we had to restart the app constantly to get the audio to play in the car.
5 ★ Great app for our self-touring, good directions, good audio, plenty of interesting information and history but not constantly talking. We liked the ability to pickup tours where we were. Well worth it!
3 ★ The commentary was great, but the app was unfortunately plagued by frequent audio glitches where audio would cut off before it was finished and sometimes not even play at all.
5 ★ A must have. This was the best money we spent in Hawaii. Super helpful. Works well. Amazingly informative. We used it on the big island, Oahu, and Maui. Well worth it.

1 ★ Was hoping to use this in Oahu, but the map didn't load due to network issues and kept on crashing. I spent money on an app I was unable to use, would prefer to have my $ back.
5 ★ First trip to Hawaii, used the app for the road to Hana and had an amazing experience. Then used this one to tour Oahu and was just as fantastic. Just rent a Jeep and turn on the app. Highly recommended!!!!
