Download the latest Raindar application, version 2.5, compatible with Windows 10/11 (using emulators such as Bluestacks), Android devices. This free Weather app is developed by Gerrit van Doorn and is easy to download and install.
Previous versions, including 2.5, are also available. If you need help or have any problems, please let us know.
Description
Going somewhere and you're not sure if you need to bring your umbrella? Want to check if there's going to be fresh powder snow on the slopes in Tahoe tomorrow? Check Raindar! Raindar displays animated Doppler radar images on your Google Map. When you start Raindar it automatically focuses on your location so you can quickly see if there is precipitation coming your way. When pressing the search button on your phone you can now also search for locations within the US!
Raindar works out of the box but has many configuration options (see the recent changes page).
Color:
- green/yellow/red is rain
- blue/white is snow
Raindar can now also display storm tracks! It displays different icons for each of the 4 types of storms:
- Yellow circle: thunderstorm
- Yellow square: Hail Storm
- Yellow diamond: Rotating Thunderstorm (Mesocyclone)
- Magenta triangle: Tornado Vortex Signature (pretty heavy!)
When clicking on one of those icons a dialog will appear with detailed information.
The storm tracks also display the direction and speed of the storm in the form of an arc. The arc is split in 3 parts: 20, 40 and 60 minutes until the storm reaches that area.
On Google TV:
- Use the D-pad for navigate up/down/left/right
- Use the media forward/back or next/previous buttons to zoom in and out

5 ★ Even though there are more detailed radar apps, this one is just right for me because it is light and super fast. Two things needed: a refresh button and a widget. Update: It's been 3 years since this was updated, but it's still my go to app for radar. No it doesn't have storm tracks or lightning strikes etc..., but it's clear and fast, exactly what I need.
3 ★ Phone Nexus 6P, stock, 6.0.1 App has stopped displaying stormtracks. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app, turned the setting for it on and off numerous times and no change. They still work on my wife's Nexus 6. That was one of the best features about Raindar. I've had this app for a long time. Emailed the developer and never got a reply. I still use it but really miss the stormtrack feature.
5 ★ I watch the news in the morning and get my general weather info there. What the temperatures are, if there is a chance of rain, ect.. When I'm out in the field, all I care about is where the rain is in relation to me. This app has been god send. No nonsense. No fumbling through pages of information. No ads. I click the App and BAM! I know where the radar shows the rain. If I can find a way to donate, I will. This is the most important TOOL on my phone.
4 ★ I am a Meteorologist by profession. This app is the simplest, cleanest, no frills radar app that I have been able to find. No toolbars to clutter the screen, just a plain old radar app. It won't give you high res data or anything like Radarscope or Pykl3 would, but you're also not paying 10 bucks for it ;) It's my go-to when I want a simple, broad look at the radar.
5 ★ This app puts all the weather reporters to shame because it lets you see the REAL PICTURE. My grandfather would always say "if you want to know what the weather is look outside your window because those weather reporters are never going to tell you the truth." Well with Raindar you don't have to wait to see the weather outside your windows to know if it's rain or shine. I love this app.
4 ★ This program is awesome but would like to see a additional feature added to it to make it more user friendly. Its nice to have it automatically check for updates based on location change and if your location has changed it updates to radar but it should be better than that. Add this feature in this way: Add 2 options for the user to select. Option 1: update radar based on location change for those that are constantly moving or traveling using their GPS. Option 2: Update radar anytime a new update is available or check every 3-5 minutes for a update for those that may use their device at home or work where they are not moving so you don't have to constantly touch the screen or move the map to get a update. That is kinda annoying to have to do that. Add this feature and it would be a solid 5 on feedback right now I give a 4.0 Thanks Dean
5 ★ ❤ A must down load... if you work out side or just need to know when the rain or storm is coming and when its leaving well then this app will help you. It gives you the 3 hour loop and it has never let me down. I would tell everyone to down load this app. Its GREAT keep up the good work... !
5 ★ Even though it hasn't been updated in about 3 years, I have used Raindar for much longer than that and have come to depend on it daily. The data stream outage over the past few days had me fearing that this was the end. I was overjoyed when I opened it minutes ago to see the data was flowing again.
4 ★ Great app! Hardly any lag time in the radar. If it's on the radar, it's happening outside. Update: Still the best real time radar app I've ever found! Only thing that could be added to make it better would be real time lightning strikes. 8/30/16 My S4 is gone, have an LG G5, and the radar has stopped working as of today. Please check it. Lost a star this time.
4 ★ I'm a Fire Chief and regularly use this app to track bad weather. Incredibly accurate and reliable. However, there used to be a storm track feature that is no longer working, PLEASE fix it or bring it back. The feature was amazingly accurate and helped me keep my people safe during weather events. Solid 5 star of that feature is restored!
4 ★ The title says it all. Hands down the best free weather radar app around. UPDATE: I've been using this app for a little over a week now, and after using it, I can't believe I actually paid for MyRadar, this is BY FAR the superior product.
3 ★ I love this app.....but now not so much... since my last update ..the print of the towns and roads are soooo tiny...even with zooming in!! ..unless my eyes have gotten so bad as of late! I have told a lot of my friends about this app and they too like it. Such a quick reference to weather/radar!...I would even use it as a map to find roads....please change the print back to where I can read it? Ty
5 ★ This app does one thing and does it well, display doppler radar images for your current location. The lack of bells and whistles is this apps strength. It's the kinda app you trust knowing it's not going to run some background process and eat your battery.
5 ★ The best weather radar app to date. No excess crap to deal with, goes straight to radar and is very accurate to within a minute or less. If all you care about is where the precipitation is falling at the moment and what direction it is moving this is the app for you. I would give it a thousand stars if that was possible. Cheers to the creators of this app!
