Smartphone Link allows you to connect a compatible Garmin navigator and your Android smartphone. Once linked, the compatible Garmin navigator uses your existing mobile data plan[1] to share information with your Android smartphone, including contacts, search results, favorite locations, your driving destination, and even your parking spot. With Smartphone Link, your compatible Garmin navigator can also access Garmin Live Services[2] for useful, real-time driving information.

What Are Garmin Live Services?

Garmin Live Services provide the most up-to-date “live” information to your Garmin navigator using your existing mobile data plan. There’s no need for an additional data connection. Some services are included when you connect to Smartphone Link. Other services within the app are available through optional paid subscriptions offering premium content and enhanced features. To receive data relevant to your location, Garmin Live Services require your current GPS location be shared with Garmin and Garmin partners.

Included Live Services:

• Address sharing - Send locations and online search results from your phone to your compatible Garmin navigator, and navigate there

• Garmin Live Traffic
Avoid delays and find detours with the best-in-class real-time information. Garmin Live Traffic is updated every minute and receives more than 1,000 messages every update cycle

• Live Parking[3]
Save time, and take the stress out of parking. View helpful parking information, including pricing and availability trends for on-street public parking, as you approach your destination.

• Weather - View forecasts and current conditions

• Last Mile - Remembers your parking spot and shows your destination, so you can find your way on foot and back again

Premium Live Services, available for a one-time[4] purchase within the app, include:

• photoLive traffic cameras[2]
Look up live photos from over 10,000 traffic cameras to see traffic and weather conditions

• Advanced Weather[2]
View detailed forecasts, current conditions, and animated radar images, plus receive severe weather alerts

• Dynamic Off-Street Parking[2]
Find parking close to your destination, including the number of spots available and current cost

[1] Contact your mobile service provider for more information about your service plan’s data and roaming rates.
[2] Restrictions apply. Not available in all areas. Subscriptions required.
[3] Parking data is available for most city centers. For coverage details, visit Parkopedia.com.
[4] See https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=111441 for terms, conditions and limitations.

Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Smartphone Link offers a variety of live services for your Garmin navigator. To ensure that you can access these services across all your Garmin devices, we use your Google Play Store e-mail address to uniquely identify you. We will not use this e-mail address for any other purpose.

Ratings and Reviews

1 ★ App was working fine. But I was having a problem with my phone, memory was rapidly running out. I'd delete things, but it would run out again. Checking storage for different apps, I found Smartlink had 9.8 GB of data! No wonder I was in trouble! Can we have an update that isn't so greedy; I can't see why Smartlink needs more than minimal memory!

4 ★ Seems to work quite well, only installed for a short time so far not fully tested. Would like to see an option to upload gpx files so they can be transferred while out riding. I image others have asked for that integration too. Gone from TomTom rider to Nav6 so don't let down Garmin. 😁

2 ★ App seems fairly useless over all. Needed it to download updates once I leave my house and drive to the truck where there is no wifi other than my phone (and bad reception at that) because some idiot designed my gps to require being connected to my charging mount before I can install updates despite having a 100% charge. Plus, you can only do local searches of addresses. Kind of useless for a long haul trucker.

1 ★ Spend $780.00 for a Trucker GPS only to download an app that looks like it was designed in the 1980's for an Atari Game. And dont work half the time. 1.Should be able to build routes in app and send to GPS Unit if needed. 2. Should be able to search locations nationwide. Not just local. 3. Should be able to edit routes in both app and Gps unit to delete weight restrictions warnings for roads that no longet have restrictions. 4. Should make it easier to save favorite parking spot in app and GPS

5 ★ I have been using the SmartLink app for some time now and have very little issues with it. What people are commenting here right now about no live traffic service has to do with the fact that Garmins website has been down the last two days and this is affecting everybody. This is not an issue with the app. No Garmin device is capable of connecting with anything right now. Do the research instead of complaining. They were hit with a ransomware attack.

1 ★ Hi I have been using this app for along time and today it's just not possible to use it every time I search for an adress it says unable to fulfil request. Please try again later. And if I want to check for updates for the gps it says that it can't connect to the server please try again later. Which is really a problem. Because now I don't no whether there is a problem with my GPS or a problem with the app.

1 ★ Just isn't reliable. Does not work with Pixel 4XL and Navigator 6. Bluetooth connection makes but smartlink says no connection and no matter how you pair the devices it remains the same. Restarted phone, carried out master reset on navigator, still the same. I just find Garmin devices and software is just flawed throughout. Wish BMW motorcycles would dump Garmin and fit TomTom instead, they're far superior!

1 ★ I keep getting a message saying Connected to Note 9 and the Disconnected Note 9. I've had this gps Dezel 785LMT-S for 2 years and this was the only issue. Now all of a sudden it will no longer dispatch and track. Keeps telling me to Check Smart Link. Everything is on.......wth Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1 ★ The here search capability seems to only search the local area so if you want to find something 100 miles away it's useless. The USB connection to the Nav unit is unreliable, other devices connect to my USB port perfectly, I know it's because Garmin use old USB technology, why can't the Nav unit be updated from the app? Sharing location from Google maps sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Many basic useability issues and Garmin aren't supporting it.

3 ★ Garmin 780 LMT-D Dispatch and track feature worked fine initially. The unit then decided to choose it's own colours randomly and the only solution was a reset. Since then Dispatch and track will only show my location but no longer my destination which seems a bit pointless as my work depends on traffic operators knowing my destination for work in that area. I have reset both the unit and my phone several times but no joy. Any answers to this issue would be appreciated.

2 ★ The App has very much room for improvement : no sync for route in progress; route management non existant; searching works very limited and the 3rd party app "four square" gives no real help either and is fishy from the start. The app forces agreement to personal data to actually run. The only somewhat useful function is the send button for Navigation purpose.

1 ★ Pros - Communicates well with my Samsung phone. Apps work well. Cons - Uses lots of battery resources. Impossible to turn off even when the GPS is off. Using the Start and Stop button as suggested to other reviewers does not help at all. The only solution I have found is to uninstall the app when I am not using the navigator and reinstall when using again, greatly reducing the usefulness of a very expensive device. The folks at Garmin really need to overhaul this app so that it works.

1 ★ Always had problems with connecting it's Smartphone Link. It worked several months between my Pixel 4 and 51 DriveLixe, but now it doesn't and no old tricks worked. What the point to have top model of Garmin navigation device if it doesn't deliver traffic info? Look like it's time to dump this company after years of using.

3 ★ IF I was using this exclusively it would be getting a higher rating but has one issue and whether it is a garmin issue an android auto issue r my Samsung A31 I do not know Maybe even Bluetooth! I have a Ford Fiesta which has Sync3 I disable the Garmin from calls The incoming call rings and then cuts off IF I do not have Garmin Smartlink installed incoming Phone calls work perfectly

1 ★ It's JUNK. The app uses your internal storage and fills it to the TOP. I'm not kidding. My phone alerted me the other day that I had no more storage available. I started looking at all my apps. This SOB app had my memory filled up to 47.7 GB Yes you read that correctly 47.7 GB. Do not purchase anything from Garmin.
