The Fussy Vegan app was developed by the creators of the Fussy Vegan website and apps as a way to easily find vegan grocery products. All products in our database have been comprehensively checked to ensure that our vegan status rating is accurate for each product in our database. We do not rely on user input to work out the vegan status of a product.
What makes our app unique from other similar apps, is that our database works with Australian and New Zealand grocery products and barcodes. As far as we are aware, this is the only grocery scanner app that has a comprehensive database of Australian grocery products and our database is growing every day.

5 ★ This is my second update of earlier reviews. I'm giving the app 5 stars, up from my initial review of 3, because while it doesn't have every item known to humanity - although more and more are being added - the team are very responsive to items you can't find, and will do what they can to contact the relevant company, find out if their products are vegan and get them listed. So as well as featuring many products, you can help them add more without having to contact companies yourself. Business magic strikes again!
4 ★ Love this app so far. Could I suggest for the fast food section, to allow sorting/filtering by vegan; that would make it quicker if you're in a store to pick something (rather than scrolling through nonvegan items)(maybe a filter for things like sauces as well). Also if you could set the country once and not have to pick it every time, that would be great. Thanks for this awesome app! If you need an app tester I'd be happy to help.
5 ★ Love it. I have scanned everything in the house (I am very meticulous with purchasing only vegan products but I was having fun testing it out 😊 ). I realised that it's important to make sure the red line on the scanner is lined up on the bar code properly otherwise you may get a 'not available' when actually it is available if scanned properly. Really so happy with it! It will be so helpful when I'm in a hurry and want to buy something I haven't bought before 😊
1 ★ Sad to rate a vegan app so low, but nothing I scan comes back with any results. I'm not sure if most of the products aren't in the database or if it's just buggy. I know a lot of the products i search manually come up with no results. I'm looking forward to rating this app 5 stars once it's actually useful and will come back to change this review once it is. Until then, I don't recommend paying for it.
3 ★ I think your product scanner really could use some work. I scanned a product three times and it showed no results yet when I manually enter the barcode, it showed the product I was looking for. I even made sure I was holding the product still and moving the phone slowly. Turns out it only picked up 1/2 the barcode numbers. This may explain the negative reviews for products not being in the database. It's actually quite annoying and could use some attention.
5 ★ This most knowledgeable vegan shopping companion you'll ever have. 😉 Been a fan of this app, and the suite, for a while now. When I come across an item I'm not sure about, I just scan the barcode to double check - so easy! I love that the developers regularly update the app and post information about new products on their Facebook page. It's the best value app we've purchased in years. Thank so much, team! 🙏💜
5 ★ This app is a game changer. I'm not sure why some people have said nothing scans. I just used it in my weekly shop and it correctly scanned around 90% of the over 100 items I scanned. It just saves me so much time, a must have for any vegan. UPDATE- Three months later and this app just keeps getting better. Love the ongoing updates the developers make to the app.
5 ★ I absolutely love this app and what the creators have done to make buying vegan products at the supermarket so much easier! When you contact via email they are super fast to reply. Sometimes the search function is hard to use, you have to type exactly how the product is named in the app. For example, you cannot type "Maggi gravy" because nothing comes up, you have to type "Maggi rich gravy". I hope future updates make the app the same as the ios version, would love the extra functions!!
4 ★ Overall I find this app useful. However it's not perfect (yet). Sometimes I find myself having to scan things twice. Sometimes one product will scan successfully and then you try and scan another of the same brand and it doesn't recognise the product. I'm assuming that's to do with the database. Also the search function is hit or miss. Sometimes you search and find what you're after other times no results, even if that product exists in the database. Overall all I have found this app useful.
5 ★ This app is so so helpful at the grocery store. It's very easy to use and quick at scanning. As a new vegan who is bad at remembering numbers, I now don't have to stand around looking up additive numbers. I trust the Fussy Vegan information process so it really puts my mind at ease when I make purchases. Thank you for your great product!
5 ★ I am so happy that this app exists. It is going to save me so much time in the grocery store knowing I do no have to stand there and google ingredients when I can just scan and the app will tell me if it is vegan. Only about 80% of the stuff I scanned was in the app but the app description said they are adding more products all the time.
5 ★ I love this app! It has so many products in it and gone are the days of googling to try and figured out what is vegan and still being unsure. Should have got this app ages ago! My vegan choices have increased so much. The fussy vegan team were amazing when i reported an issue that turned out to be related to my phone's mobile data settings, they did everything they could to help me. Amazing app and amazing service!!
2 ★ I am so disappointed with this app. It recognizes maybe 1/10 products. The "Is it Vegan?" app (similar app) has recognizes about 99% of products I've scanned. Except "Is it Vegan?" is free, with very annoying ads. Would have loved to pay for an ad free version, and was hoping this app would be that for me. My only complaint with this app is its limited knowledge of products, otherwise it's great. So devs, fix that and you got an A+ product here.
5 ★ Love the app, super easy to use and I like that you can search brands and items without scanning too. I couldn't imagine having to contact every manufacturer to find out if a product is truly vegan, so I appreciate the effort taken to do this by the developers. It's really good knowing you can purchase truly vegan items without the hidden sneaky non-vegan ingredients or processing methods.
5 ★ Really useful app. Wide ranging database. Corrected me on a few items I thought were vegan based on old info, and allowed me to find vegan alternatives to them. App team are ridiculously responsive, I was getting answers from them in minutes. I love how the app gives in depth information about the product and its ingredients, so you can determine whether it sit within your personal consumer values.
