2 ★ (24 Dec). It's working now. The audio player can be improved, have features like rewind, select portion, and playing speed. (20 Dec 2019) Subscribed for a year of digital version but unable to access Unable to access both on website and the app. Emailed customer service but received no replies. (Dec 2020) audio player still not improved.
2 ★ Audio function severely lacking. No controls and can be really annoying in spotty coverage as you can't choose where to restart. Plus, it doesn't show that it is buffering so you just get odd interspersed silent times. Otherwise for reading it works fine.
3 ★ Lacking important features. No ability to highlight and save text like in medium app. Hard to use font +/- slide button. Why not clickable +- buttons? Amazing magazine with awkward substandard app.
1 ★ Seems everything's behind a paywall. I expect the info is probably good, and the app functionality is nice, but I can't give 5 stars to a paywalled app when you could implement an ad or two.
4 ★ It's a pretty nice app, the interface isn't super simple but it is fairly easy to figure out. Like other reviewers, I had some difficulty logging in as a subscriber, but found that I could be recognized if I first opened an issue and THEN clicked the log in button. Otherwise, my only issue is that the 'scrapbook' feature only let's you save one item at a time, it would be nice to get a list of saved articles, like the one on the website.
4 ★ Really needs to have font size control on every page. We don't just set the font size once for our eyesite, we also read in different reading situations. ALSO...the login is stupid. When a new issue comes out it forgets who I am, won't accept my password and when I click the link for help it doesn't give me a password reset option, instead it asks my postal code. Ffs guys get your app updated.
2 ★ A good app let down by horrendous audio features. Just like The Economist, this app has a nice interface with a solid presentation, and just like The Economist the audio features are God awful. I have 3 suggestions: 1. Allow for native playback controls (i.e. in the notification shade) 2. In the app player show us the timeline/time elapsed and remaining for the article we're listening to!! 3. Allow us to listen at 1.5 and 2x speeds
1 ★ The app itself is very primitive and full of bugs. For example when you download a new issue it wants to force you to subscribe again and again. Audio features are not available in the app. All these issues force you to use the site via browser.
4 ★ The articles are amazing, yet the app is not very friendly. I'd be better if it saved where you left, or you could just make it compatible with apps like Pocket, which is an amazing app to read articles.
3 ★ Does not remember where you stopped reading an article once you close the app. Does not have many articles that appear on the website of foreign affairs. Accidental left-right swiping can cause to switch pages.
4 ★ App got glitchy - it doesn't understand anymore that I have an active subscription and doesn't allow me to open the magazine. Before this happened it was a very cool app, hence the 4 stars for now.
3 ★ As much as app works quite well. The player for texts is not the best, it laks possibility to go back and forth in audio file, therefore if I misspress it starts the audio from beginning and I can not go back to the same spot I was listening to.
1 ★ Lots of problems. With a subscription I still couldn't read articles. I notified Foreign Affairs and it worked for a while, then same problems. Finally gave up and cancelled my subscription.
1 ★ All I care about it the audio and they are failing in that regard. Some of the articles have audio but they are old and inconsistent.
4 ★ Good app. Simple and to the point. Unhindered reading experience. It does like to redownload downloaded issues, though, which is annoying.
