Description
Delight in exploring the solar system, from the Sun to the smallest moons of Saturn and out to the coldest, darkest, farthest reaches of Pluto. Gaze down and marvel at our solar system from above. Look up in wonder at the rings of Saturn. Feel the awe of floating in space around worlds no human has yet set foot on. Understand how the constellations of our night sky are made up of stars distant to each other in both space and time. Embrace the impossible distances of our solar system and the inordinate scale of our universe.
Star Chart VR is the virtual reality version of the hugely successful augmented reality astronomy & star gazing app - Star Chart - downloaded by over 25 million people world-wide.
Features currently include:

4 ★ Well done app - the exploration feature provides interesting information about many celestial bodies. Being able to revolve around the celestial bodies is nice, but would like to be able to revolve on more than one axis for viewing the poles. The historical feature provides neat details about a couple missions so far (I would love to see more, similar things, even if only photographs to highlight other landers/ongoing missions). The sky map was the feature I wanted to try out, but feel somewhat mediocre about: 1) the location settings did not work properly (outside, the moon is above the horizon, in-app, it's below - I am in Reykjavik, Iceland - maybe some settings that would show the detected time/location for confirmation, and the ability to recalibrate); 2) I would prefer to be able to turn off the graphics behind the constellations as they can be a bit distracting; 3) it would be nice to be able to filter out sky objects by magnitude, to adjust the viewing experience to what one might actually see given their current conditions; and 4) add in some satellite tracks. I have enjoyed it so far, but would find it to be a more useful educational tool with these other features.
3 ★ Planets and moon were not in correct positions when I tested it for the first time last night. It showed the moon below the horizon... but it was a full moon. Also didn't seem to always pick up my location, despite location services permission allowed. Sometimes it did and I would restart and it would think I was in South America I guess based on the star positions. Also, North should always be real North. My phone has a compass... But it seems promising!
4 ★ I think the moon's bright side is the other side. I cannot see the Tycho crater which is wired.
1 ★ I'm using Google Daydream on my oneplus 3T (rooted) and the app doesn't open in VR mode. Instead, it opems in flat screen mode and doesn't recognise my controller.
5 ★ It functions quite well with the daydream controller, and it's intuitive and fast with the controller.
5 ★ Cool experience
5 ★ Unbelievable. I've enjoyed Daydream and VR but this takes it to a whole different level. Seeing the planets as massive structures in space is incredible, but what's even more mind blowing is the use of the controller. The way information is presented is so cool, I feel like I've found a piece of alien technology. Being able to hold a planet in the palm of your hand is surreal, and then holding that planet up to the sun and watching the light affect the colors of the atmosphere is fantastic. It showcases the attention to detail of this app, which makes it so fun and exhilarating to use. Honestly this is the best use of Daydream I've seen to date, bravo Escapist Games.
4 ★ It's really hard to get familiar with, the tutorials need to be more in-depth.. but after a while it becomes really awesome
3 ★ Graphically lacking. Saw the moon as a star as viewed from Earth and it made me sigh. These 3d objects are barely more than low resolution 2D and you get no joy to explore them in 3 dimensions.
5 ★ I was really impressed with this app, I still think there are some basic things to work on, but it was a cool experience. My suggestions would be to have the planets look nicer, provide more general information on galaxies and things, and provide some more customizations for looking at the stars. Like changing the time, toning out the less bright stars, it isn't the easiest to use right now for stargazing.
4 ★ A couple things would make this an even more stellar experience. When traveling to a celestial object, a user should see it in their home position, don't make us crank our necks around. Second, orbit mode is backwards. Make the planet rotate in front of the user, not the planet rotate around the user. Basically orbit facing the planet, like the moon does. Lastly, after a few minutes, the controller becomes very hard to manipulate. Like it is stuck in slow motion. Several events get queued up and the pointer gets laggy.
3 ★ Got my hopes up too high. This app has a confusing menu interface. And the graphics are quite poor. You feel like you're in a five foot room and every single star and planet are all exactly five feet away from you. The sizes get larger and smaller, but the distance always feels the same. There needs to be more contrast. The space in between stars is kind of blueish instead of black. Make it black will provide more contrast and make it harder to judge distance inside the app. Another reviewer commented that the little stars need more resolution. Well, that is also a hardware issue. Your PHONE display needs more resolution. But the reviewer was also correct. The stars do look generic. I realize this app is only $5 but I still feel very let down by the graphics. I don't think I'll ever use this app again and it's already too late to get a refund. Sorry devs. But I think your graphic artist can do a lot better.
4 ★ If it included the Messier catalogue, and more information on all the bodies and surface features you can interact with, then this would be awesome! Really good immersive app though.
5 ★ Breathtaking! My best VR experience so far and worth the price! I just wished it had some sort of free flight mode
5 ★ Very fun leaning tool. Thanks!
