1 ★ Updating the UI is one thing, but why would you make it completely different from the desktop app? It's such a bad experience. Not even considering that it doesn't work. Changing channels doesn't load new stuff in the content portion of the screen. Before the worst bug was gifs not loading sometimes, but now nothing but notifications work. No exaggeration.
1 ★ I hate this new UI, I can't see any images when sharing the image with others (Compact as if it was a large file to smaller files), and previous images are no longer loading. When a friend sent me an image, I couldn't see their discord profile picture. This even shows when on Computer, even after ending the task with Task manager. I want the old UI back or at least an option to switch between the Old UI and New UI.
1 ★ Ever since the new UI update there have been a lot of problems occurring that make the app much less usable. Editing this to clarify the issues. My issues do not stem from a lack of understanding of the features, the issue is that the features are bugged and outright do not function. Sadly, there is not enough space in this review box to detail the issues sufficiently. Some issues include: images not loading correctly (in a variety of strange ways) and DMs not opening when clicked on in app.
1 ★ New mobile UI is difficult to use, does not have aesthetic cohesion with the desktop or tablet versions of the app, and the bugs that have come with it make the app almost unusual. Notifications often don't appear, conversation will default to the top instead of the most recent message, messages and pictures don't load, custom themes (a paid for feature) just do not work, as well as a multitude of visual glitches. The new aesthetic looks bad and is not worth the bugs, let us revert back.
2 ★ The recent update has made it abysmally laggy and slow. Tapping on the servers alone creates a spike in freezing. Things seem to "unload" and go back to being un-read. Images break and fail to load. The layout is completely unintuitive to no surprise. Is it really that hard to leave alone something that worked perfectly fine ? Apparently it is.
1 ★ Use any competing app if you can! There are many better options out there. Discord used to be an amazing service. In late 2023 they made several drastic changes crippling the app. Performance is down, visual clutter is up, every action takes more taps, users are harder to find. The list goes on. There is no officially supported way to go back. It seems to somehow get worse every update. Discord is now laying off 17% of its staff. The only way that's not evil is if they worked in UI or UX.
1 ★ The new update is unnecessarily confusing, non user friendly and buggy. Part of Discord's entire thing was being it's own entity, and the UI reflected this, with a pleasing, easy to use layout. However, the new update is an obvious attempt to fit in with other apps and just looks worse. The app also WORKS worse, too. My server lists often don't load even after a reset, I encounter flashing light glitches and images often don't load even when tapped on. It's lazy UI and poor performance at best.
2 ★ Each update downgrades the app. The new layout broke many features and was extremely unnecessary. The quick access aspect of simply swiping to view a channel or member list was taken away, the call page was completely reorganized, and a call can hardly run in the background. There's no way to reverse this either. The prices for having a simple icon effect are a scam, too. The effect isn't animated in chat and it's $7+ for it to be badly designed. I have many more complaints that don't fit here.
1 ★ While still functional, the update to the UI is pointless and I can't imagine Discord properly ran this idea by actual users and got positive feedback for it, because I have yet to find a person who liked it. There's not a single change I like, ranging from just annoying to straight-up pointless and awful (the change to searching in servers and finding the members list). I can't in good conscience recommend this app to anyone anymore, and I'm glad the ratings are reflecting this for newcomers.
2 ★ 12/13/23: This app was wonderful and then the recent update happened. I just accepted the new change and tried to adjust, but the bugs are making it difficult. I used to be able to reply to notifs without opening the app. Now I'm not sure if my messages ever get sent because it doesn't show my reply in my notifs like before. 1/13/24: Photos are struggling to load and cameras in vc are buffering, but it's fine, most of the time, on desktop.
1 ★ First off Discord is the best and works nearly flawlessly on PC; however... The recent UI overhaul has made the app completely unusable on my phone. Loading channels is dramaticly slow and freezes trying to change channels more than once per session. On top of that there's no longer a "send" button so I can type messages but can't actually send them. That could be my phone's fault though.
2 ★ The new redesign is extremely clumsy for my uses. They've made it a bit more inconvenient to swap between dms and server conversations and to check member lists. Those three features are my main uses of the app, and it's not a great user experience to do these three things together anymore. Otherwise the app is fine. Stable, no bugs. Just very VERY inconvenient to use.
1 ★ if i didn't need to have this app on my phone i would delete it. it used to be fine, but recently had an update that changed the entire format of it. this makes it uncomfortable for long time users. swipe actions that we used to be able to use to get to different parts of the app have been replaced with arrow buttons, which just makes people accidentally reply to other messages while trying. many people have asked for an option to have the old layout back and just got told to get used to it.
1 ★ My favorite messaging app Edit: Down to three stars from five after an update changed the UI. Too many clicks to go from group messages to private messages now and the whole app runs significantly slower. Edit 2: Down to one star now. I'm fed up. It's just so slow and clunky since that one awful update that changed everything. When I get a notification I walk across my house to look at it on my PC now instead of bothering with my phone. If they force this change on the PC version I'm done.
1 ★ Back to a Mid start unfortunately, the new UI really isn't a move forwards, it's not user friendly when it comes to server stats and user status on the side of the channels. The previous UI has no issues to my knowledge. Edit: To further add, this app is so sluggish that I can barely load anything and get to where I need to go, I recommend scraping this please, go back.
