The CURT Echo™ (#51180) is a Bluetooth-enabled, mobile brake control that allows you to control and monitor the activity of your trailer brakes using your smartphone and this downloadable app. The device simply plugs in between the vehicle-trailer 7-way wiring connection and uses Bluetooth to sync with your phone.
Download the Smart Control app to set up your smartphone as the trailer brake control interface for the CURT Echo™. With it you can adjust maximum braking power and sensitivity while towing. It also shows diagnostic information like overload conditions and trailer-disconnect errors. For added control and safety while towing, the Smart Control app provides a button to manually override braking and activate the trailer brakes whenever necessary.
With the compact design and plug-and-play installation of the CURT Echo™, it is a highly portable brake control. It is designed to be easily transferred from one vehicle-trailer combination to another. As such, the app allows you to store up to five user profiles, each with its own personalized settings.
The Smart Control app does not need to be open for the CURT Echo™ mobile brake control to function normally. The app can be closed, and the Echo™ will use the previously selected profile settings to determine maximum braking and brake aggressiveness.

1 ★ this app is trash. for a $250 brake controller you would think the app that goes with it would be a little more solid and trustworthy. I would return this whole unit if I could.
1 ★ Garbage! Every trip I have taken with this brake controller I have had issues. Between unable connect or losing signal. This is the most unreliable brake controller on the market. Don't buy!!
1 ★ This worked fine last year, why did you try to fix something that wasn't broken? Now it doesn't work, I can't pair it with my phone. Tell me Echo, what are you going to do about? Let everyone know what you're going to do.

5 ★ Lifesaver!! This app ant its Brake controller is hands down worth every penney! Twice I've hit a large bumps to have my trailer start oscillating back and forth. I just reached up put my finger on this big orange dot. Problem solved instantly! Its easy to connect, pretty intuitive. And has saved my hide. Cudos to the developers. Best I have ever used.
1 ★ Everything was perfect until the latest update yesterday. Pixel connectivity has completely stopped working. Which is a great irony because the latest update purported to be a fix for Pixel connectivity.
5 ★ Great product but desire more features. The Good: Great to not have a controller mounted on the dash. Already have the phone for GPS, so saves valuable dash space on smaller vehicles. Downloaded app, pair bluetooth without problem. Played with power levels and tilted the unit to simulate up/down hill or stopping. It does not matter the mounting orientation...a few seconds after plugged in(when 12V applied), the unit will take that as a calibration level. It must be plugged in so it does not move around during travel otherwise the unit will not know where level is and might not recognize proper deceleration when brakes applied. You can set max power and sensitivity. The max power goes to 100% in 5% increments. When brakes are applied, a blue circle draws around the outside of the red button as brake power is increased. At full power, there will be a complete blue circle around the red button. Even if you have the maximum power set to 50%, when you get to the max of 50%, it will be a complete circle showing you are applying the max setting. The sensitivity is from 1 to 9. The higher the number the quicker the power will increase towards the max power. I simulated by simply tilting the unit(not mounted to car). The not so good: 1. Bug...If you apply your brake pedal and while you have your foot on the pedal you touch the Manual Apply Brakes Button, the brake power will increase to maximum as you would expect. However, if you take your finger off the button but keep your foot on the brake, then all power to the trailer brakes is turned off...but, the blue circle line is still showing power "should" be there and says "Brakes Being Applied". I called Curt support line and was told it's this way for safety. I do not understand how it is safer to be told brakes are applied when they are not. Perhaps the button should say "disable trailer brakes". To get back to normal operation, just release the brake pedal for a moment. 2. It does not tell you immediately that the trailer/brakes are disconnected, seems to take a minute or so after launching app to give you a warning. You can even press manual/pedal several times and all seems good with the blue line showing power to brakes during that minute or so after launch. Close app and re-launch, will take another minute to let you know the brakes are missing. 3. Trivial, but the phrase at top center of app, "Hold button to Activate Trailer Brakes" the bottom part of the words "Trailer Brakes" are being blanked. 4. Calibration issue if you are not on level ground. Big issue for me, my driveway is a downward hill. So when I plug unit into the car, it calibrates the hill as being level. So when I am on a flat highway, the unit would reduce braking power as if I was going uphill. NOT GOOD. (Likely an issue for other brands with auto-calibrate.) Curt support said I would need to drive to a level area, unplug the controller and plug back in to re-calibrate. I often leave home early morning in the dark, NOT GOOD. I asked for an app button in the settings to tell the unit to re-calibrate. Told me that would be a safety issue to allow users to do that because they might not be stopped when doing it. I think a warning screen to confirm you are stopped and level would be good enough. Besides, I don't have the option at home for level. 5. Along with #4, above...once you get familiar with the operation, you can verify the level setting by pressing the brake pedal when you are stopped and level. The blue power line should be very short at the top right of the circle. If not, re-calibrate. 6. The unit does not tell you the Amps going to the brakes. I think that would be useful so you could diagnose that one brake might have a broken wire. Prodigy tells the Volts and Amps. 7. Want a diagnostic screen showing extra info. Perhaps there is a hidden/developer screen to show tilt, current, etc. Maybe a hidden reset/reboot or re-cal button? The developer had to have some extra diagnostic functions hidden. Will provide updates if I keep it. Guy I talked to before buying was very helpful.
4 ★ It works fairly well. I have had issues with the controller applying full brakes even when barely touching the brake pedal. It's a pain to have to pull over, unplug the unit and replug. It would be nice to be able to restart the unit remotely via the app in these cases. Safer as well. Make sure you plug it in level so that it calibrates level accurately.
1 ★ Unable to find device in the app. I can see it is available if I look in my Bluetooth settings.
