Description

Splits is a shot timer. In fact, Splits is more than just a shot timer. Splits records the time of your first shot, shot to shot split times, mag changes, elapsed times and even includes a simple means to record accuracy. Splits can save your shot strings to your device’s storage (permission required) so that you can monitor your progress.

Splits is very good at recognizing when a shot has occurred. However, it is not a dedicated shot timer. When there is a need to adjust its sensitivity, due to environmental conditions or surrounding activity, Splits is easy to adjust. Just click the "Adjust Microphone" button. Splits provides a visual presentation of your shot string with the ability to adjust the device’s sensitivity as well as set a minimum level of sensitivity to filter out false positives.

Splits does need permission to store your shot string history on your device’s storage and to access your device’s microphone. The storage question often asks for permission to access “files and pictures”. This is a general question. Splits does not access pictures.

Splits is almost as good as the dedicated shot timers costing $100 (US) or more. But, it costs only a couple dollars (US).

Try Splits for 30 days free. If you like it, buy it.

Splits allows you to define your own stages and drills, so that you can select them during your session and save the shot strings by stage or drill. With the release of 2.40, Splits supports identifying the weapon used and person performing the drill. The term weapon is used here because some have chosen Splits for archery and other devices.

Graphical presentation is integral with Splits. You can see a historical presentation of your progress for draw time, split time, mag changes and elapsed time. You can recall and depict a graph of the actual shot string (2018 and forward). Plus, you can depict a graph of the current shot string and adjust the phone’s sensitivity if needed.

If you are shooting by yourself, splits includes a timer delay so you can “Make Ready”. The timer delay can be set to zero so the beep sounds at the press of the start button.

The metrics that Splits retains by Drill include: Total reps of the drill, total shots in the drill, average shots per drill, average elapsed seconds per drill, average first shot, average mag change, average split time between shots (excludes first shot and mag changes), average shot or split time, accuracy and the ratio of hits to misses. The metrics can be filtered by date range, weapon and/or person.

Splits can be used during Dry Fire practice. It can detect the sound of the hammer or striker click. Before dry firing, make sure your firearm is not loaded.

There is more to Splits than that described above. Splits is free to download and use for 30 days. So, give it a try.

The Splits screen layout and coloring works well in the sunlight at outdoor ranges as well as indoors.

If you have questions, issues or suggestions, please email me. Thanks for looking. And, always treat a firearm as if it were loaded. Be Safe!

1 ★ Could not get it dialed in shooting steel targets. Multiple shots always recorded; even if one shot was fired and missed the steel. Played with the settings a bunch but didnt seem to make a difference.

5 ★ Excellent app! One of the best I've used! For those having trouble getting started, WATCH THE VIDEO in the play store. I nearly gave up initially thinking it wasn't able to be used on my phone until I realized you had to hit start and then also hit stop before you will see any time data or have access to microphone adjustments (shots don't appear in real time). Once I figured the initial portion out, I immediately paid for the app. Well done developer 👍.

3 ★ Please add auto repeat option, so you don't have to press the Start - Stop button each time. Add "mag capacity" option to specify how many times you want it to beep, and add an option to specify the random interval. Here's a scenario: You have a metal target and a 7 round mag. You holster the gun, in the app you enter the mag capacity of 7 and interval of 5 seconds. You start the timer. Once it beeps - you draw the gun and make as many shots as you want (1 or 2 or 3) then you holster the gun. If the app counted you still have a round in the chamber it will beep again in about 5 seconds, this way you don't have to press that start-stop button every time. Please let me know what do you think.

5 ★ I recently downloaded and tried this app. It's quite good for being free! I never saw any ads, but purchased the full version anyway as it's well worth the price. I really like the ability to set up different weapons and shooters as it allows me to use the app for both my son and I and track our data separately. The only thing I would LOVE to see is an Android Wear companion app for this to allow using an Android watch as an input device. It would be conveniently located right next to the weapon and on-board microphone would be able to catch each shot accurately. Overall, it's a great shot timer and well worth the money to buy the full version!

5 ★ Found myself at an indoor range wanting to run drills with my P226 SAO Legion. I was not wrong in assuming a phone app for a shot timer existed. Did everything I needed and then some. For now, I don't see a reason to invest in a commercial timer just yet. I did have some questions, and I'm not sure if they are "full features" but: -How do you get it to register a magazine change and show the split? I dont mind looking it up. -Does it listen for steel for hits/misses? Can you manually enter it?

5 ★ Great app for casual (broke) training. I keep my phone in my shirt pocket and works for rifle and pistol. I adjusted the 2 sliders to ~3/4 (to the right) and it doesn't drop a shot or add a nonexistent shot into the data set. Sometimes if it's really windy I will have to hide my phone's microphone better. 10/10 Great job man. Not sure how much work went into making this, but I am sure it wasn't easy. (Samsung 7)

5 ★ So I love this app. I use it almost every time I go shoot. I especially love that I can program in different drills and then save all the data. I used to write all of this down in notebooks.... Anyways if I could make 1 suggestion to make this app even more awesome, I would like the ability to add different pistols. Like my bill drill times with my uspsa gun are different from my carry gun and I would like to be able to separate them

5 ★ I needed a shot timer but couldn't afford $100+ for one. I installed this app and it does everything I needed it to do. My friends and I use it weekly at our informal matches. You really can't go wrong with Splits. I just need to figure out how to get it to automatically display elapsed time after the last shot.

3 ★ Just downloaded it on the recommendation of a stranger online. I liked it well enough after 5 minutes of clapping my hands that I bought the ad-free version. It lost one star because I was expecting to see some basic drills preloaded, and another because I haven't had time to try it on the range yet. It will probably earn at least one star back, maybe both. I will update it when I know more.

5 ★ Edited review: I had issues with the app that were fixed through contact with the creator and troubleshooting. app is back to being the best shot timer app I've ever seen (only one that actually works) if you run into problems don't hesitate to contact CSL1911A1, better support for this free app than most premium services give you!

5 ★ Awesome I'd like to request another mode where there are multiple random beeps and it can time the reaction to each and list them all at the end. I'm not using it for shooting, I'm using it for martial arts training and during lockdown it's great to stand in front of the heavy bag and strike with the beep with different techniques and track my speed and my student's speed but it would be nice to do over and over as a workout without stopping to press the start button.

5 ★ Wow, this app actually works very reliably with my airsoft pistol. The interface could be better, but what's important is that IT WORKS! I have no reason to doubt it will be just as reliable with real guns, and no reason to buy a shot timer costing hundreds of dollars!

5 ★ First off, great app. The smoothing and sensitivity features are useful and intuitive after some practice. Something that does not detract from overall performance but would improve quality of life is for splits to be shown immediately after the shot is taken, as opposed to after the sequence finishes or you press stop. Maybe show the noise graph being plotted with the noise threshold line.

5 ★ this is a very handy tool. i use it to analyze steel challenge practice. the default of all misses is annoying i wish it recorded hits then adjust for misses. also i wish you could select for mag changes option in setup. if you do a mag change in steel challenge, you've lost. these are minor, overall i do recommend this app to friends.

5 ★ I picked up this app for my Android phone as I am on a tight budget. I connected the phone earplug to my hearing protector audio input and set the timer. It works fantastic! It allows me to develop my skill set and I can monitor my improvement on the timer. I can also adjust this to work either on an open range of my gun club or in a private enclosed range. All I can say is it works better than I anticipated.
