App permissions

British Gas Pay As You Go 4.39 APK requires following permissions:

Allows an application to write the user's calendar data.

Allows an application to read the user's calendar data.

Allows applications to open network sockets.

Allows access to the vibrator.

Allows applications to access information about networks.

Required to be able to access the camera device.

Allows using PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming.

Allows an application to initiate a phone call without going through the Dialer user interface for the user to confirm the call.

Allows read only access to phone state, including the phone number of the device, current cellular network information, the status of any ongoing calls, and a list of any PhoneAccounts registered on the device.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

Allows an application to read from external storage.

2 ★ app crashed even some payments had been taken but the app said it hadn't. I'd avoid British gas expensive much cheaper suppliers out there. customs service isn't that good only the odd person is helpful.

1 ★ Old British Gas app replaced! why has this pay as you go app replaced my standard app? I am not a pyg customer and have never installed a pyg app.

1 ★ I have tryed to use this app on three different Android phones and each time it does not work. only way to top up on my phones is via the internet

1 ★ Absolutely useless app. System unavailable when need to top up. Slow to update. Online payments take far too long to be credited to the account. Regularly down or unavailable so cannot be used to credit an account. Very disappointing as it is supposed to make things easier and it does the exact opposite. UPDATE: Still unable to top up online with either app but can't fault the BG customer service team at all. Just the developers that need a kick up the rear end.

3 ★ I have been forced to stop using this app, and instead to switch to BG "Smart" app. The former has been one of the best utility company apps I have used. The latter has perhaps 20% of functionality of the former and deserves two stars at most. Why was I forced out of this app if it is still maintained and updated on Google Play? EDIT FOLLOWING DEVELOPER'S RESPONSE: You take feedback? Do you act on it? Look at all the negative reviews of the 'Smart' app and tell me why you force people to use it?

1 ★ The new "smart" app has less functionally than the original one. eg I can't see and compare usage over the year. If sems like a downgrade rather than an upgrade. It's useless and I will log into my account via the website in futue. Please don't ask me to submit more info via message on social media as I dont use them.

1 ★ now can no longer use this app. open it and get a screen telling me to get the new smart app. no option to close it and stay with this app. but smart is not compatible with my phone. well done. now I have no app to use! not so smart! Thanks Chelsea, There are plenty more providers out there that provide working apps. Thanks for the push.

1 ★ your app is rubbish, it's always being updated (badly) and constantly asks for my login detail. With the latest update it won't accept my password and tells me my postcode is incorrect (which is rubbish, as I've lived at this address for a few years) not to mention the fact that you keep adjusting my payments as your system thinks it can do maths better than me (which it can't by the way, because it's stupid and doesn't adjust for seasonal use). Just Fix it and leave it alone.

1 ★ The worst app I've ever used! constantly glitches, top up functions say "unavailable please try later " but processes payment anyway? Instant chat is wholly inadequate, never get the right department for the issues you are raising and after being passed on to the 5th operative and having to explain their issues for the 5th time makes the most patient person want to explode!!! Worse app ever British gas!!!!!

1 ★ Downloaded app, logged in, then it told me to download the new app. Waste of time! Edit: In response to the reply - I have downloaded the new app but can't log in due to a bug with it - I have emailed a report of this. I would suggest updating the app description to direct customers to the new app and avoid wasting their time.

1 ★ Prepayment customers are forced to use this application that is not fit for purpose. Topping up is a nightmare "this service is unavailable right now". Old top ups are shown randomly and duplicated multiple times in the top up history, the app does not remember card details and takes an age to load the top up screen on the occasion it does decide to work. When can we use the new smart app?!

1 ★ cant use your app!! whenever I've tried to open your app I get a notification taking up the entire screen asking me to download your new app that includes smart meters...i dont have a smart meter and it tells me I don't have an account. Theres no "x" to get rid of the notification so I cant use your app. Please get this sorted asap.

5 ★ Hi i cant get the new app to work, is it because i havent got a smart meter. ive phoned and spoke to someone about this, and was told it should be working soon. The old app was fantastic, easy to use to look at my account, pay bills etc. I hope the new app gets sorted out soon , as if not im back to queing on the phone , waiting ages to pay my bill. please someone help me.

3 ★ Considering British gas has such huge resources and are a blue chip company this app should work way better than it does!!! Just about works sometimes, info is way out of date and extremely limited!! Come on guys it could be so useful and functional. UPDATE 17/6/19 still having problems with this app! It's just so unstable, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't sometimes it works but takes 5 to 10 mins to load. Come on British gas kick your developers into action!!

2 ★ works for topping up. did think with the smart meter I would be able to view the smart meters info on the app. maybe i was expecting too much? although then what is the point in the smart meter. could go back to just making direct debit payments. thought it may incorporate new features with updates but none yet in over a year.
