Description
Avi-on Home is a fully-secured system that requires both login and location services. Login ensures that no one else can operate your lights. Location enables you to use sunrise and sunset with your schedules. Once programmed locally, the schedules will operate without the Internet or your phone nearby.
To control GE-branded devices via wi-fi, an Avi-on Remote Access Bridge is required. All schedules and settings are saved on a Bluetooth chip inside each device. Avi-on enables many users to control many devices through a single account. Your account and settings are saved in the Avi-on cloud, providing instant back-up. If you want wi-fi access, 24/7 clock synchronization, and/or Alexa compatibility, install an optional Avi-on Remote Access Bridge (RAB).
How do you get started?
Power any Avi-on compatible device by wiring it or plugging it in (plug-in switch or dimmer, in-wall switch or dimmer, or outdoor switch)
Use a current smartphone or tablet with current OS with Bluetooth and with strong wi-fi access
Download the latest version of the Avi-on Home App. Register your account and password. Check spam folder for verification and password emails

1 ★ Nothing in this app is intuitive. User has to keep trying things to see how it works.
5 ★ I've had it for a few years. It works great. No problems.
4 ★ It's pretty good but there is a lag between opening the app.
1 ★ Specifically bought a bluetooth only device so I would not have to connect through wifi. The app will not even start without a wifi connection and registering an account. This is absolutely unnecessary for a bluetooth device. Advice to developers: make registration/ internet connection optional (check out "Govee Home" app).
1 ★ Constant connectivity issues. Both "firmware update" AND "complete refresh" were done, but connectivity issues persist. Sometimes I can connect in a few seconds, other times it can take as long as a minute. Some days, I just can't connect at all. And I'm not using multiple devices and/or multiple controllers. I have a single Avi-on device and a single controller (smartphone). UPDATE: Hello Avi-on Labs, as you stated, this is a review platform. I'm not seeking support here, as I already went through all the applicable help steps outlined on your support page. I'm just trying to provide my experience with your app so that current/potential users can aggregate this review along with the hundreds of others and come to their own conclusion.
1 ★ Alright device but the app stinks on many levels. Bought the product on a discount and now I know why. Set it up a few weeks ago and it worked just fine for a little over a week. Then it worked intermittently, as far as schedules. Now it just completely stopped working. The app won't connect anymore either. Also why do I have to "skip" adding a new device every single time I access the device. Every time, even when the device worked? Horrible UI and app development.
1 ★ What happened to this app? i used it last year for Christmas lights. no issues at all. and now, in using it again, it takes forever to connect and more often then not, I need to restart my Bluetooth to get it to work. I see the app devs have a "connecting?" FAQ now, so something must be going on. this needs to be looked into. the app was not in this poor condition a year ago. And yes, I updated the firmware and it's still slow and takes forever to connect.
1 ★ This app is terribly written. It has to connect to their web site to allow you to use Bluetooth to turn on your light. When it does work, it takes way too long to log in. When login fails, it just says"connecting" in a modal window that keeps me from accessing my lights switch. And this was not an"open box return" as they claim work other reviews.
2 ★ it's just ok, whish I would of knoned the app (you have to sign up for) is only OK, before I bought the GE plugin outdoor switch (price $50, I got it on sale on amazon for $20) timer option is very confusing to set up. don't even know if it's going to work (bought this for Christmas lights, don't think it's going to do what I thought it could do)
1 ★ I have one in wall switch. It has been installed and working fine for a couple years now. Suddenly the program stops working. I can operate the switch manually, but like others here now the app says it won't connect to the device. Asks me to turn on Bluetooth, restart my phone, nothing works, even reinstalled the app myself. No more time to waste on this..... Will look for another product.
1 ★ I was able to downgrade to the previous version, you have the app locked so users can't downgrade to fix the GE firmware update issue. Note: I had updated my GE firmware and still have the issue where device can't be controlled. Don't throw away your money. This is what I'm getting from your support: "If you ignored the update pop-ups, then your switch may have stopped transmitting properly. As a result, you can no longer connect to it." I can't authenticate with the old version.
1 ★ I would avoid the GE Smart Plugs. They require you to turn on location services each time you access the app. This aggressive behavior should not be tolerated. I appreciate the developer response about the location being used for sunrise/sunset settings but that's not something I need and I insist on having the choice to give up my location. I am returning the plug.
1 ★ I should not have to provide my email, create an account or any other information just to control a Bluetooth light switch in my own home. All 6 of these are going back to the store which will cost you around $300 in lost sales just so you can play the information game. Returned to the store today. I advise not to waste your time with this company.
1 ★ takes forever to connect, and customer supports only response is to say "oh you're so silly, you didn't update to the latest firmware!" and yet, they have no idea if you did or didn't. well, I DID update my device to the latest firmware, it was the first thing I did, and it still takes forever to connect! the issue is that this app is trying to collect as much info about your phone as it can and will not let the app proceed until the info is transferred back to their servers.
1 ★ Only bluetooth operational? I wanted to be able to control it while away from home. Couldn't connect to my Echo without a hub.
