iಕೌಟಿಲ್ಯ ಎಂದೇ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧನಾದ ಚಾಣಕ್ಯ (ಸು. ಕ್ರಿ.ಪೂ. ೩೫೦ - ೨೮೩), ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಭಾರತದ ಅದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಅರ್ಥಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞ. ಮೌರ್ಯ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಣಕ್ಯನ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮಹತ್ವದ್ದು. "ವಿಷ್ಣುಗುಪ್ತ" ಎಂಬುದು ಚಾಣಕ್ಯನ ನಿಜವಾದ ಹೆಸರು. ಚಣಕನ ಮಗನಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಚಾಣಕ್ಯನೆಂದು ಹೆಸರು ಬಂದಿತೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಷ್ಣುಗುಪ್ತ ತಕ್ಷಶಿಲೆಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಥಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ತಕ್ಷಶಿಲೆ ಗಾಂಧಾರದಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಗಾಂಧಾರದ ರಾಜ ಅಂಬಿ, ಯವನ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿಯಾದ ಅಲೆಕ್ಸಾಂಡರನ ಜೊತೆ ಒಪ್ಪಂದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಇಡೀ ಭಾರತವನ್ನು ಯವನರ ಕೈಗೊಪ್ಪಿಸಲು ಹೊಂಚು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆಗ ತನ್ನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಬೆಂಬಲದಿಂದ ಅಚಾರ್ಯ ವಿಷ್ಣುಗುಪ್ತನು ಬಂಡೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಈತನ ಶಿಷ್ಯನೆ ಚಂದ್ರಗುಪ್ತ ಮೌರ್ಯ.

Chanakya (350 BC - 283 BC), popularly known as Kautilya, is a unique economist of ancient India. The role of Chanakya is important in establishing the Mauryan Empire. Chanakya's true name is "Vishnugupta". It is said that Chanakya was the son of Chanaka. Vishnugupta was a professor of economics at the University of Takshishila. The trilogy was in Gandhara. King Amba of Gandhara signed a treaty with Alexander the Great of Yavan, and put an end to the whole of India. Acharya Vishnugupta rejects the support of his students. His disciple is Chandragupta Maurya.
