Many species of sharks, along with stingrays, bony fishes, mammals and invertebrates, have adapted to living conditions in the aquatic environment for thousands of years. As a result of this - the diversity of species composition within the same group.

Sharks are no exception. In the seas, oceans and even rivers you can meet many representatives of these predatory fish, which differ not only in appearance and morphological features, but also in the way of feeding and behavior.

In order to avoid confusion, the scientists decided to carry out a classification, distributing all the species of sharks known to science into groups - taxonomic units. At the same time, only morphological features were taken into account - features of the internal structure, general and distinctive signs of the external structure.

Sharks are dangerous not only because they are strong, have sharp teeth and powerful jaws. The main danger lies in the unpredictability of the behavior of the toothy predators: despite the fact that the habits of sharks have been studied for a long time, it is almost impossible to predict exactly how a shark will behave in a given situation or another.

Today, more than 450 species of sharks of various sizes are known; the smallest one reaches a length of 17 cm, the largest one is up to 20 meters. But the real danger to humans are only some species of sharks. In recent years, the most cases of attacks on humans have been recorded by the great white, bluff and tiger sharks.
