Description
Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, which is the last week of Lent!
Holy Maundy Thursday, is recalls the Last Supper, and on the Friday before Easter Sunday.
Good Friday is held in honor and remembrance of Jesus's Crucifixion. In Christianity, Jesus' death is one of the most important segments of the Holy Bible. In dying, Christians believe Jesus took on all the sins of the world and thus it is only through his sacrifice, that they are redeemed and allowed to enter into heaven.
Many Church services are held in the afternoon, usually around noon or midday to 3 pm, to remember the hours when Jesus was crucified on the cross. Observe the day by re-enacting the process of the cross in the rituals of stations of the cross, which depicts the final hours of Jesus' life.
Participating in Veneration of the Cross, a short ceremony in which Christians kneel before the cross and affirm their faith. Some people also observe a fast or abstain from eating on this day.
Other festivals such as Christ is Risen or Easter day also follow along with reach into the blessed and enjoyable day. Easter,also called Pascha (Aramaic, Greek, Latin) or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary.
It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
