3 ★ Good app but interface could use some intuitive polishing as some functions are either awkward or illogical. The app gives you a warning that your power saver option may degrade tracking but the degradation is severe, much worse than other similar apps making the tracked info useless ! A major flaw is the phone app : if the profile is set to "keep my account private" and then an attempt is made to share a map, the app tells you that the setting has to be changed and then it goes into a perpetual loop.
2 ★ The app is okay but all the trails seem to be crowd sourced rather than a list of the trails in a specific area. Which wouldn't be a problem if you could join multiple smaller recorded trails into a single course. I run long distances so a 1 - 2 mile hiking course doesn't do meuch good. I found more use manually creating my own course with their editor, saving the GPX and uploading it to my Garmin. Also, getting credit for a tracked course means the apps runs constantly. Battery killer.
2 ★ Many bugs. Most times I try to make changes to my profile (ex. Making my activity private) I get an error. Changing the default location, I get an error. I also find it hard to navigate and is frustrating trying to delete trails from my list. Always got an error while trying to log in through Facebook. I like the idea of this app but the quality is poor at the moment. If they can fix the bugs in the free version I will definitely purchase a subscription.
3 ★ Very frustrating experience. Pinning a waypoint didn't work during a long hike when I needed to drop a bag - used the GaiaGPS app instead. Also, the elevation gain visualization doesn't show progress, so you have to remember your mile progress from the prior screen, go to the elevation tab, long-press and move the cursor to approximately where your mile progress is in order to check when you're about to hit a major elevation gain period. This makes it very difficult to plan breaks.
3 ★ I subscribed to Pro so I could download maps and use them offline. Most of the trails I hit have no signal for hours upon end. The maps were downloaded properly but loaded pretty damned randomly. I turned on airplane mode and still only get the maps to come up sometimes. There's no rhyme or reason, they just load when the app feels like loading. Not going to renew if this continues.
2 ★ This app used to be great, so much so that I purchased the Pro account. Now the app is so glitchy that I had to switch to Gaia which was more reliable. This is just too bad. This past hike, the recording function would come in and out , had to restart recording multiple times. The worst for me was the inability to send notifications to my loved ones which was what I loved the most about all trails. I tried 20 times over the course of 4h, error message every time despite having service.
3 ★ Agree with other reviewer - can you slim down the Explore panel during startup? In bandwidth limited situations it takes FOREVER to load up all the graphics for Top Trails Nearby, Family Friendly Trails, Best Views, Trails Less Traveled (and on and on). I tried tricking Filters, but it always goes back to Kitchen Sink option. Put a real simple selection screen (no graphics) that lists each of the above options, the user can click on one of interest (or not and choose Plan, Navigate etc). I love the GPX downloads, but starting up the app is just to tedious in the woods.
1 ★ I have no idea what happened to this app. It was working just fine yesterday then today it will not even load or open fully. It is completely non responsive which kinda sucks since I had a route mapped out for this weekend with this app. For a paid app I do not feel I am getting my moneys worth out of it at this point. Maybe I'll have to stick with one of the other map apps that are more reliable. Lessons learned.
4 ★ Great for saving and finding trails. I do wish that the explore/search function in the app was more like it is on a computer and showed you a list of results and their stats rather than simply a trail's name and location. I also wish when you added a trail as "completed" it would automatically add those as miles you've gone in your stats. But all in all a great app!
1 ★ I really hate this piece of software. I received a paid membership and never use it. To begin with, everything requires giving all trails a ton of information. If I just want to log a location, this app requires what activity, where I'm going, etc. etc until I feel like I'm hiking with a neurotic nurse Ratchet. It doesn't work well. I can't download maps ahead of things without giving it even more information in the hypothetical. Bad gift. I appreciate the sentiment, but never use it.
5 ★ Feature Request...Please add feature to stop or edit a recording to not include car speeds. I regular forget to finish the recording. My wife and I want to hike, bike and ride horses on the Maricopa Trail. 315 miles of trails. Our first experience (without AllTrails), we got lost. We found AllTrails that does have the Maricopa Trail in sections. This is a great improvement. We are looking forward to tracking our progress on the trail.
2 ★ The app usability stinks. What I want from an app like that is to be able to A) conveniently explore trails and B) pre-load for offline use and navigate when I'm off signal A) sucks - the map keeps jumping around if you select different trails, for some reason centers on you as you ask it to point north up and makes whole browsing experience rather frustrating B) sucks because it only let's you pre-load a trail. If you go off-trail - bad luck. And it's unreliable Gaia FTW!
3 ★ The old version was more streamline. I couldn't figure out how to add a pictures once selected. The problem was the DONE is almost the same color as the background. You kinda need contrast to easily be able to see especially when in direct sunlight. Please make DONE a much lighter shade of gray. Sometimes less is more. When referring to the app. Sometimes less features makes for a better app. The record feature was fine how it was. It's more convoluted now. Maybe have a pickup and go feature.
1 ★ The app is not only useless, but also dangerous if you don't bring a real GPS. The thing is when there is no reception the app won't show the map, even if you "downloaded" it. So if you relied on it and you're in the middle of nowhere and your phone gone offline you're screwed. This is totally dumb, because most of the trails, at least here in Canada, don't have good cellular reception, if at all.
2 ★ Slow. Not designed to be useful when you have spotty or non-existant cell service, which given how cheap even a TB microSD card costs these days, is inexcuaable. Also, very irritating that trailhead locations are generally not given in a way transferable to vehicle navigation systems or stand alone GPS systems. Also seems to be unaware of the Groton State Forest in Vermont (2nd largest parcel the State owns) or any trail in it.
