He was born in 1937 in Yemen.
Received his university degree in 1970.
Received a master's degree from the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University in 1973.
Received a doctorate from Ain Shams University in 1977.
Professor of Modern Literature and Criticism, Faculty of Arts, Sana'a University. (Degree of professorship in 1987).
President of Sana'a University from 1982 to 2001.
President of the Center for Yemeni Studies and Research - currently.
He was awarded the Lotus Prize in 1986.
Received the Medal of Arts and Arts - Aden 1980.
Received the Medal of Arts and Letters - Sana'a 1982.
Awarded the Arab Culture Award, UNESCO, Paris 2002.
He was awarded the first prize (knight) in Arts and Arts from the French government, 2003.
He received the Arab Culture Prize from the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science, 2004
