Description
Note that to make this app work you need an arduino powered wheeled robot capable of carrying a laptop on top of it.
To get things working follow these steps:-
a) Download the package from the link given at the end.
b) The package contains a setup file, an arduino sketch and an arduino Library
"Arduino-SerialCommand-master.zip"
c) Use the setup to install the client side app on the laptop which you will connect
with arduino. Open your Arduino IDE and include the zip library that you downloaded
from the package above. Now Upload the provided sketch to your arduino board.
d) Connect your arduino to the laptop which will be placed on you robot.
e) Run the application on your android device and the laptop(as an administrator).
Allow the app permissions from the windows firewall. If somehow you can't connect to
the server app on android then turn off you firewall.
f) Connect both the devices on the same WiFi network.
g) Note the IP address of your android device
h) On the app on your phone enter Port = 5000 and Max Conn = 1 and press Initialize.
If you are connected on a network and the port is not busy, you will see
"Listening for incoming connections" in the right corner. If not then make sure you are
connected to a network and try to use a different port.
i) After the server has been initialized on your android device, go back to the application
on your laptop, and input the relevant info.
"Listener Address" = Your android IP address.
"Port" = The port on which you initialized the server on the android device.
"Serial Com port" = The com port on the laptop to which the arduino is connected. You
can check this from the Device Manager in control panel or from the arduino IDE.
j) Click connect after inputting all the info.Your status should change now in the top right
corner to something like "Connected to XYZ @ port ABC".If not then make sure you have
precisely followed the above steps.
k) The server app on the android phone will now indicate that a client has connected.
l) Click on the video label on your android phone to retrieve the video stream from the
laptop. You can connect an external webcam to your laptop if you don't have one
integrated.Move your robot through the arrow keys.
PLEASE NOTE:
The pin configuration on your arduino should match to that provided in the sketch. You can modify the sketch but the function names should be the same as they correspond directly to the app logic. If you get no video output even after toggling the video button, then try lowering the video quality from the slider just above the video panel. If you can't get the video to show even after lowering the quality slider then try an external webcam device with your client computer(The one running the client side app).
