Description
Dashavatara (Sanskrit: दशावतार, daśāvatāra) refers to the ten primary avatars of lord Vishnu.
* The Vishnu Purana is among the shorter puran texts, with about 7,000 verses in extant versions.
* Vishnu Purana, like all major Puranas, attributes its author to be sage Ved Vyasa. The actual author(s) and date of its composition are unknown and contested.
* The Padma Purana categorizes Vishnu Purana as a Sattva Purana.Vishnu is also described in the Bhagavad Gita as having a 'Universal Form' (Vishvarupa) which is beyond the ordinary limits of human perception or imagination. The Vishnu Purana is a religious Hindu text and one of the eighteen Mahapuranas. It is considered one of the most important Puranas and has been given the name Puranaratna.
In Vishnu Purana, worship of Vishnu has been given a lot of importance. Vishnu Purana puts forward that the worship of Vishnu could enable man to obtain the consummation of all earthly or materialistic desires and leads man to attain moksha or liberation from cycle of births and deaths in the material world.
The vishnu sahasranamam is found in the Mahabharatha. Literally translated this means thousand names of Vishnu. vishnu sahasranamam is found in the Anushasanika Parvam (chapter relating to orders or rules to the kings) of Mahabharatha.
