Imam Shafi'i's Biography
1. Imam Shafi'i's Nasab
The full name of Imam Shafi'i is Muhammad bin Idris bin ‘Abbas bin‘ Usman bin Shafi ’bin Saaib bin‘ Ubaid bin ‘Abdu Yazid bin Haasyim bin‘ Abdul Mutthalib bin ‘Abdul Manaf.

Imam Shafi'i is the only school of Imam who is of Quraysh descent whose message is continued with the Messenger of Allah through ‘Abdul Manaf. Rasulullah SAW said: "The leadership is among the Quraysh" (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

Imam Fakhrurrazi (one of the great scholars who are Shafi'i) said: Jurjani is a scholar from the Hanafi sect who denounced Imam Syafi'i's message.

He also said that the followers of the Maliki school did not acknowledge that the Imam Shafi'i text originated from Quraysh, in fact they assumed that Shafi'i (Imam Shafi'i's third grandfather) was a slave of Abu Lahab. Their hoax has been denied by the majority of scholars of the Shafi'i sect followers.

2. Imam Shafi'i's Birth and Death
Imam Nawawi said: Ulema agree that Imam Shafi'i was born in 150 Hijeriyah which was the year of the death of Imam Abu Hanifa.

Imam Yaqut said: Imam Shafi'i was born on the day of the death of Imam Abu Hanifa. Although the majority of scholars do not take this opinion into account.
