The Ta'abbudiy problem
There does not seem to be a dispute between the scholars that the problem of inheritance or Faraidh is a matter of ta'abbudiy in religion; aka ritual problems that have little chance of ijtihad in it.
The reason is because God is s.w.t. has determined the quota of each heir with a value that has been determined through revelation. Then there is no need to bother with a visit on how many quota mothers or how much quota of wives; Allah SWT. explain already.
In fact, not only is the ration determined, but whoever gets the ration is explained in detail. That is explained in detail in Sura al-Nisa '11 through 13, and also at the end of Sura al-Nisa' which is verse 176; about kallalah (someone who dies without leaving a child).
That is why this knowledge is called by the term Faraidh [فرائض]; because Faraidh itself is a plular or plural word 'from the word mufrad or single Faridhah [فر ضٌة] whose root word is derived from the word Fardh [فرض] which means it is fixed or certain.
