Abraham (Hebrew: אַבְרָהָם, Standard Tiberias'Aḇrāhām Avraham Ashkenazi Avrohom or Avruhom; Arabic: ابراهيم Ibrahim; Ge'ez: አብርሃም,'Abrəham) is an important figure in the Bible and the Koran. Judaism and Christianity recognize him as patriarch, while in the Islamic tradition it is known as Ibrahim. In the Abrahamic religious tradition, Abraham is the spiritual father of many people.
According to the Bible, Abraham was called by God from Mesopotamia to negeri Kanaan, around 2000 BC. [10] There he entered into an agreement: Abraham diminta acknowledge that Yahweh is God and supreme authority of the sole and universal, and to the descendants of Abraham will be blessed with innumerable. His life is told in the Book of Genesis (chapters 11-25) can reflect various traditions.
The original name was Abram (Hebrew: אַבְרָם, Standard Avram'Aḇrām Tiberias; "father (ab) praiseworthy" or "father of [my] praised / glorified" (compare Abiram). Later in his life he was known by the name "Abraham", often referred to as av hamon (goyim) "father of many (nations)" according to Genesis 17: 5, although the Hebrew word does not have a literal meaning. [11]
