Nasab (offspring) Imam an-Nawawi

He is al-Imam al-Hafiz, Shaykh al-Islam, Muhyiddin ibn Abu Zakaria Yahya bin Neural Mury bin Hassan bin Hussain bin Mohammed bin Khamis bin Hizam an-Nawawi Dimasyqi ad-Shafi'i. The word 'an-Nawawi' ascribed to a village named 'Nawa', one of the villages in the Hauran, Syria, his birth place. He is regarded as the sheikh in schools Shafi'i fiqh expert and well-known in his day.


Birth and Environment

He was born in the month of Muharram in 631 H in the township 'Nawa' of two righteous parents. When the 10-year-old, he has started to memorize the Koran and read books of Fiqh in sebahagian scholars there. This learning process among Ahli Hadith better known as 'al-Qira`ah'.

Once, by chance a cleric named Sheikh Yasin bin Yusuf al-Marakisyi pass through the village and saw many children forced 'an-Nawawi small' to play, but he did not want to even run away from the pursuit of them and cry while reading al Qur'an. The Shaykh then deliver them to her father and advised the father that his son is directed to study. The father agreed with this advice.

In the year 649 H, an-Nawawi, with dihantar by his father, arrived in Damascus in order to continue his studies at the Madrasah Dar al-Hadith. He lived in al-Madrasa al-Rawahiyyah attached to the wall of the mosque al-Umawy from the east. In the year 651 H, he pilgrimage with his father, then returned to Damascus.
