Abdullah Malik bin Anas bin Malik bin Abi Aamer al-Asbahi al-Humayri al-Madani (93-179 AH / 711-795 CE) is a jurist and a Muslim scholar, and the second of the four imams among the Sunnis and the community, and the owner of the Maliki school of Islamic jurisprudence. He was known for his abundant knowledge and strength of memorizing the Prophet’s hadith and confirming it in it. He was known for patience, intelligence, prestige, dignity and good morals. Many scholars praised him, including Imam al-Shafi’i saying: “If the scholars are mentioned, then the owner of the star is the owner of Allah’s proof of his creation after the followers.” His book “Al-Muwatta” is considered one of the first, most famous and correct books of the hadith of the Prophet, until Imam Al-Shafi’i said in it: “What comes after the Book of God Almighty is a more correct book than Muwatta Malik.” In his fatwa, Imam Malik relied on several legislative sources, namely: the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah of the Prophet, consensus, the work of the people of Medina, measurement, missionary interests, approval, custom and customs, blocking pretexts, and escaping.

Imam Malik was born in Madinah in the year 93 AH, and grew up in a house that was busy with the science of hadith, exploring the effects, news of the Companions and their fatwas. He took on the authority of many other scholars such as Nafeh, the freed slave of Ibn Umar and Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, and after his studies of antiquities and fatwas were completed, and after seventy Sheikhs of scholars testified that he was a subject for that, he took a council for him in the Prophet’s Mosque for study and fatwas, and his study was known with tranquility and reverence. And respect for the hadiths of the Prophet and their reverence, and he used to be careful not to make a mistake in his fatwa, and he used to say: “I do not know.” In the year 179 AH, Imam Malik fell ill for twenty-two days and then died, and the Emir of Madinah, Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim, prayed for him, and then he was buried in Al-Baqi '.
