Download the latest Audio MODEM application, version 1.0, compatible with Windows 10/11 (using emulators such as Bluestacks), Android devices. This free Communication app is developed by Roman Zeyde and is easy to download and install.
Previous versions, including 1.0, are also available. If you need help or have any problems, please let us know.
Description
It uses a simple MODEM algorithm to enable the user to send and receive short data messages (up to 250 bytes, within up to 3 seconds) between nearby phones or computers, utilizing the sender's speaker and the receiver's microphone.
Please use GitHub (https://github.com/romanz/audiomodem-android/issues) to report any issue you have with the application.
You can also use the following Python implementation (https://github.com/romanz/amodem) to communicate with a computer.

4 ★ 2nd Review after a while of use: While the transmission stream sounded fine, I don't quite get why there is a beep at the preamble of the transmission, couldn't it sound like the rest of the TX stream or could it be omitted? It seems to bother me because a actual radio TX I know if don't usually have a distinct sound at the beginning—in fact, it kind of sounds like my notification beeping sound.
5 ★ One of a kind App. I like the idea very much. Could this be modified to act as a coupling to the Phone Audio so that a Smartphone could be used to connect with a Fax machine? If so you could add a RIP interface for documents and have the worlds first true Direct Smartphone Fax !!! Much money $$$ :-D
5 ★ My only limit is that it only allows text up to 250 bytes. It would be much nicer if I could transfer files, or at least an unlimited amount of text! I would support this any day!
5 ★ Can't wait to connect this to an fm xmtr or walkie talkie to see if it works. Kinda wish you didn't have to press receive every time but not a big deal. I'm sure I'll be use the python code anyway.
5 ★ This app works great and has alot of potential, ome thing I would like to see added is a higher file size limit (I like using it to transmit my html code around )
