2 ★ Used to work great. Now the app consistently stops playing if my phone is locked and this isn't the app that is open. If I open the app it'll immediately start playing without me even pressing play. The sleep timer seems to be malfunctioning too in that it won't stop. It just plays my entire queue. I've woken up to podcasts still playing and/or episodes I haven't listened to archived.
1 ★ For a paid app, there needs to be more settings available, as well as a more user friendly interface. Setting schedule times for download should be one of these settings that isn't there, for example. Being on wifi and charging is not what I call scheduling. I changed this from a 3 star to 1 after the app continued to be inconveniently downloading and being a resource hog while doing so. This needs addressed by the developers.
4 ★ Latest update is a step backwards. No more playlist managment, unable to mark eps as 'played'. Long-press menu is gone, replaced with swipe left & right which is alternately either way too sensitive or not enough. Very hit and miss, more miss than hit, unfortunately. Fellas, what the hell happend here?? This is just no good. If i could roll-back update to previous, i'd do that in an instant.
2 ★ Deceptive sales practises... paid for lifetime premium version, then you made it free for all, then you ask money for a plus version! You should convert people who paid for premium to plus for life!! In addition, the app crashes about twice per day. No clear trigger, but feels like network related. Please fix before adding new features!
4 ★ This is one of the best podcast players in the market. I'm happy to support them. If they had just ONE more feature, it would take the cake: the ability for listeners to leave reviews per podcast episode. Done. It would be HANDS DOWN the best anywhere and would get my 5th star in this review! Please make this happen!
2 ★ Meh. Was paid, now free or sub, not a huge deal but annoying. Searching categories is limited to 1 page, pushing MSM, "curated" selection. Discovering new podcasts is impossible in app now. No search filters or search via tags. Get used to seeing the same casts pushed over and over.
4 ★ Best podcasting app in my experience, but I hate that every update re-enables auto-archiving, and I only notice when I try to search for an episode and it's hidden by the archive filter. I'd at least appreciate an "unarchive all" button, if the feature can't be disabled and stay disabled through the update process.
4 ★ No algorithmic recommendations; trending, popular, dynamic and static categories. Very sleek. Subscriptions don't show an unnecessary description until tapped, but podcasts in discovery do. Episodes are surfaced either way. Couldn't be more convenient. Crude OPML support.
4 ★ Great app but one major thing missing is ability to stop autoplaying Up Next podcasts. Yes, you can set the Zzz but you have to do it everytime. Would be great if you could choose to set it as default. Other than that, can't fault it.
3 ★ Android Auto support was broken on Version 7.16 and is still broken on 7.17. AA Voice commands, especially the vital "Play up next in Pocket Casts" have been totally broken on AA for a while now and no voice commands work. I emailed Support and they replied asking me to update to 7.17. I did and replied that the voice commands still didn't work. Support stopped replying. Haven't heard back since and voice commands are still broken. Samsung S20 Ultra Android 11 Pocket Casts 7.17
5 ★ Been using for a while now. Previously used Podcast Addict. I switched because I wanted easy syncing between devices. At first I missed all the customizability PA had but Pocket Casts regularly gets updates and can now do everything I want. You have to pay a subscription now but I purchased it when it was pay to own and am grandfathered into no fee. The subscription is pretty affordable for the value I get out of it so I'd probably still pay for it of I had to.
5 ★ The best podcast selection. I have 5 other apps on my devices (perhaps even more) and I have browsed them all, looking for the most interesting podcasts to follow. However, pocket casts have the best selection, somehow. Once I find a fantastic podcast, I search for it on the other platforms and it surely is over there, but only on this app does the fantastic podcast FINDS ME. I am not sure how you do this. But this is fantastic.
3 ★ Probably the best podcast app for me but I have no idea why some podcasts cut out when using Chromecast to play to another device. One podcast literally just stops playing exactly 12 minutes after you start it. Check the app after that, open the Chromecast option menu and it says 'No Media Selected'. Not sure if it's the server the cast streams from, Chromecast or Pocket Casts that's broken. Infuriating though, other casts have no such problems. Very strange.
5 ★ This is my preferred podcast app. I was not happy that there aren't saveable playlists. I was absolutely baffled when I read that it used to be a feature but was removed. The fact that the play queue is synced across devices every time that you open the app does make it incredibly useful for the purposes that I would use a playlist for. It is the best player app in my opinion, but it could still use a few features.
5 ★ My go-to podcast app for years on Android and iPhone. I've been using Pocket Casts since 2015, and I've tried other newer apps but always return to it. Syncing across Android and iOS is super helpful and unique as far as I can tell. It's full featured and stable and has all you need for beginners or podcast pros.
