The José Martiniano de Alencar Digital Democratic School Library is an initiative of Professor Rodrigo Nóbrega Martins to rescue the culture of the classics of Brazilian literature through a new access model, which is digital reading. One of the strengths of this endeavor is that the student owns the book, putting together his own collection, and not just borrow it from the school library. This means that far more students can read the book at the same time, as public school libraries live a difficult reality and do not have a large number of the same copies.
But the advantages of this mode of reading go beyond. The digital book is not lost, does not break, does not tear, besides being ecologically correct, it is not necessary to use raw materials whose renewal takes some time. Distribution costs do not exist and students can upload the book to their computer, tablet, mobile ...
In the construction of such an initiative, we think it is fair to honor Ceará writer José de Alencar, who is an icon of Brazilian literature and proud of the people of Ceará for his achievements in favor of Brazilian culture. The books available at the José Martiniano de Alencar Digital Library are in the public domain or available in open access or copyleft.
