Description
The water resource can be evaluated using the Water Quality Index (AQI). Its calculation is based on nine parameters (coliforms, pH, BOD, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, temperature, turbidity, total solids and dissolved oxygen), with different weights according to their relative importance to the calculation of the index. These parameters represent the water quality indicators and were established by the National Sanitation Foundation in the United States and adapted by CETESB in Brazil for development of an index that showed the water quality. The IQA reflects interference by sewage and other organic materials, nutrients and solids in water.
