Alice in Wonderland, is a fantasy novel written by British mathematician, logician, photographer and writer Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, under the pseudonym of Lewis Carroll, published in 1865. The story tells how a girl named Alice falls for a hole, finding itself in a peculiar world, populated by humans and anthropomorphic creatures.

The book plays with logic, giving the novel great popularity in both children and adults. It is considered one of the best novels of the genre of the Nonsense. His narrative and structure, along with his characters, have been a great influence in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.

The story told in the book had three phases. The first and most important began during a boat trip on the River Thames on July 4, 1862. The mathematician Charles L. Dodgson, the Rev. Raul Alejandro and the three Liddell sisters: Lorina Charlotte, Alice and Edith, were traveling on the ship. thirteen, eighteen, respectively. The river trip had begun on the Folly Bridge, near Oxford, England, and would travel eight kilometers, to Godstow, before returning to Christ Church, in Oxford. According to Dodgson's newspaper, the trip was so boring that the girls asked the teacher to tell them a story. To please the girls, and due to the special affection Dodgson felt for Alice, he told the girls a series of fantastic stories he called Alice's Underground Adventures. According to the stories of Dodgson himself, Alice Liddell and Duckworth, the author improvised the story, which excited the girls, especially Alice.

The book has a second part, less known, called Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there (1871). Several film adaptations combine elements of both books.
